Managing safety
- The safety of the people working on our construction projects, is of absolute importance. It can't be compromised. I talk a lot about safety in my course called "Construction Management: Safety and Health", and I talk about it more in my weekly construction management series, and my "On the Job Site" series. It's important. And I talk a lot about safety, quality and productivity being inextricably linked, meaning that if safety is sacrificed, quality and productivity will ultimately suffer. The safety of the people working on our job sites is a little different than other types of risks. It is not okay to just assume a certain level of risk, and then add contingency money when it comes to our people. The two methods that are applicable here are to avoid the safety risks in the first place, or mitigate them down to a level where if a mishap does occur, no one's going to sustain a serious injury.
