From the course: CIPP/US Cert Prep: 4 Workplace Privacy

Workplace privacy

- Our employers collect and store large amounts of information about us. Managing the organization's payroll requires them to maintain our bank account information, social security numbers, and other financial information. Maintaining health insurance benefits provides them with significant health information about us. Employers also have information from background investigations, disability claims, employee misconduct investigations, and other sources of sensitive personal information. Supervisors, finance departments, human resources groups, and information technology teams all need guidance on the ways that they should protect and maintain all of this sensitive information. That's where privacy professionals play an essential role. The Certified Information Privacy Professional, or CIPP certification offers a certification path that you can follow to build a career in this field. Hi, I'm Mike Chapple, and I'd like to invite you to watch my course on workplace privacy in the United States. It's part of a five-course series preparing you for the CIPP exam. I hope that you'll join me as we explore privacy issues related to employment.
