Teacher certification
- A lot of fields offer a relatively straightforward process to start your career. You apply for a job, interview, and hopefully you get hired. But teaching is not one of those fields. You may have friends or family who are teachers, and if so, maybe you remember their path from college to student teaching, and then to the classroom. Perhaps someone, you know discovered a career in teaching after college through an alternative program, or maybe, you know someone who became a teacher later in life as a career change. All of these examples show that there are several different pathways to becoming a teacher, but all of them involve certification. Teacher certification is part of a licensing process that often includes courses, field experiences, and special exams that show you have the knowledge and skills necessary to be a teacher.
