Position Overview:

Cowbell is seeking a dynamic leader to join our team as SVP Cyber and Tech E&O Underwriting and Head of Reinsurance. This role, reporting directly to the COO, will be responsible for developing and implementing reinsurance and risk capital strategies to support Cowbell’s growth. The position also serves as the product line leader for our core cyber insurance products, overseeing rates, rules, forms, guidelines, and overall portfolio management.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy & Leadership: Develop and execute corporate reinsurance strategies in collaboration with the COO and Global Head of Distribution. Lead strategic initiatives to position Cowbell for profitable growth.
  • Product Line Management: Guide product development, including rating, forms, rules, and underwriting guidelines for core cyber insurance products. Ensure alignment with market conditions and emerging risks.
  • Reinsurance Relationships: Serve as the primary contact for reinsurance partners, managing communications, contract negotiations, and collaboration across underwriting, claims, and finance functions.
  • Team Building: Establish and grow a dedicated reinsurance team, including Partner Specialists and support functions.
  • Market Expertise: Act as the internal consultant on reinsurance, market conditions, and overall product strategy. Maintain deep industry knowledge and market relationships.
  • Profitability & Growth: Ensure profitable underwriting practices by managing risk tolerance, market appetite, and operational efficiencies. Regularly review product portfolio performance and make strategic recommendations.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Partner with internal teams (Underwriting, Product Development, Claims, Marketing) and external brokers to develop products and address market demands.
  • Innovation & Analysis: Monitor industry trends, analyze market data, and leverage insights from Cyber Threat Intelligence and Claims to enhance our underwriting framework and drive product enhancements.


What You Bring:

  • Experience: 10-15 years in reinsurance, reinsurance brokerage, or sales operations, with 3+ years in a senior management role. Experience in cyber liability insurance is a must.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, build relationships, and drive results in a fast-paced environment. Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strategic Mindset: Advanced analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex scenarios and make data-driven recommendations. Able to think critically about business models and risk management.
  • Industry Insight: Expertise in professional insurance lines (Cyber, D&O, E&O, etc.) and existing industry relationships.
  • High-Performance Attitude: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities. Adaptable to a startup environment with a proactive and self-motivated approach.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive acceptance for strategic initiatives.
