Supervisor Patient Access Management FT Rotating Shift

Children’s Hospital of Michigan is an international leader in pediatric and adolescent medicine. Surgical services include general, thoracic, reconstructive and cardiovascular. The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Emergency Department is a verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and dedicated pediatric burn center. Experts in pediatric critical care, rehabilitation, and neonatal and perinatal medicine provide care for thousands of children every year at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Children’s Hospital of Michigan - Troy and six ambulatory sites.

Job Summary

Supervises activities associated with a variety of Patient Access functions, which may include any combination of Scheduling Registration, Admitting, Unbilled Management or Insurance verification.

  • Monitors established policies and procedures governing registration and insurance verification. Assures accurate input of insurance information to generate correct claim forms.
  • Maintains knowledge of health insurance programs in order to resolve problems associated with insurance coverage and to counsel patients on possible financial liability for health care services.
  • Oversees financial counseling of uninsured patients for Medicare/Medicaid eligibility. As directed, drafts policy provisions and provides interpretation of function or department policies. Identifies the need for drafts or defines procedures/protocols in collaboration with higher management input, goals, and objectives; modifies procedures/protocols as necessary.
  • Monitors the quality and quantity of work flow to ensure work is completed. Initiates or recommends personnel actions such as hires, fires, disciplines, etc. Completes performance appraisals.
  • Develops daily, monthly and/or yearly goals and measures for single or multiple closely-related fields, areas, or processes and, as requested, assists in assessment of goal attainment.
  • Assists in assessment of goal attainment and in the development and monitoring of the budget for single or multiple closely-related fields, areas, or processes Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws, government regulations, JCAHO requirements and DMC policies.
  • As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations. Ensures hospital departments achieve objectives for diversity of their suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or related field, or equivalent amount of education and/or related experience.
  • Two to three years progressively more responsible related experience, including supervisory/ leadership experience.
