Statistical Specialist

Penn National Insurance has an amazing opportunity to join our world-class Actuarial team as a Statistical Specialist! This is a hybrid position reporting to our home office in Harrisburg, PA.

The Statistical Specialist is responsible for the internal collection of statistical data and the verification of its accuracy. Statistical Specialists are responsible for the dissemination of that data to rating bureaus and state insurance departments as required by statistical plans and statutory requirements. This position has a variety of customers, both internal and external, and must be able to respond to and balance the needs of all customers.

  • Works with the Statistician and Information Technology to resolve problems and/or issues with statistical reports and plans.

Attention to Details

  • Reconciles statistical and financial figures and reports.
  • Verifies the accuracy of statistical data used in rate making and other Actuarial data bases; assists in the reconciliation or correction of the discrepancies.
  • Thoroughly documents the sources of data for all reports.

  • Reports statistical information to the rating bureaus, statistical agencies, and regulatory authorities.
  • Serves as an intermediary between the company and statistical agencies with the assistance of the Statistician.
  • Analyzes error patterns in data submitted to the statistical agencies and bureaus and recommends possible solutions to the error causing conditions.

  • Maintains a system to track state requirements and due dates and complies with those requirements and dates.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of the statistical plans and the company information systems.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE STATISTICAL SPECIALIST


Education/Credentials

  • Associates degree in a business-related curriculum or equivalent education and experience


Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years insurance experience


Technical/Professional Knowledge

  • Basic knowledge of the fundamentals of Property and Casualty Insurance
  • Proficient with PC skills and knowledge of the Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office
  • Good communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a deadline driven environment

  • This position is primarily a sedentary position that requires occasional standing and walking throughout the office environment.
  • Must be able to see and effectively use a computer monitor.
  • Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard and applicable printers and other general office equipment.
  • Must be able to access and enter information accurately using automated systems.
  • Must be able to hear and communicate via the telephone and/or monitoring devices to both internal and external clients.
  • Must be able to present information to individuals and groups.
  • Must be able to interpret and apply concepts that may or may not be based upon established guidelines.
  • Must be able to maintain acceptable attendance and adhere to scheduled work hours.
