Staff Engineer - Geotechnical (Solar Focused)

Our Client, a leader in the renewable energy sector, is seeking a full-time Staff Engineer to join their geotechnical solar team in the Ann Arbor, MI office.

In this role, you will play a vital role in supporting the development of industrial-scale solar energy projects by:

  • Performing field testing including soil boring logging, sample collection, pile load testing, and electrical resistivity testing. (Most work will be outdoors at sites across the country.)
  • Conducting laboratory testing to determine soil properties such as California Bearing Ratio (CBR), thermal resistivity, unconfined compressive strength, and particle-size distribution.
  • Preparing engineering reports by analyzing and interpreting test data, performing calculations, and developing foundation and roadway design recommendations.

To be successful, you will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and an excellent driving record.
  • (Preferred) Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • (Preferred) 3-4 years of demonstrated experience in construction engineering.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office Suite.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Excellent prioritization, coordination, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to read and understand testing specifications.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 99 lbs, use hand tools, and operate hydraulic equipment.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and travel extensively (including overnight stays).
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • (Preferred) Willingness to operate heavy-duty construction equipment.
  • Ability to work in difficult terrain such as agricultural fields, pastures, and wooded areas.
