Research Assistant I

A motivated individual is being sought to perform both lab managerial tasks as well as basic scientific research in the field of cancer biology. Research will focus on how non-coding RNAs regulate cancer progression pathways using novel antisense reagents, in vitro assays, and mouse models.

Assists in lab experiments under direct supervision.

Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas.

Maintains inventory of lab supplies and orders supplies as needed for experiments.

Perform tissue culture, laboratory bench work, molecular biology, and biochemical experiments.

Studies may involve use of mouse research, mammalian tissue culture, and human cancer samples (tissues, body fluids).

Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.

Keep detailed laboratory records and research data in an organized manner.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science or another field related to the specific field of research from a four-year college or university.

Experience preferred in performing basic laboratory techniques such as preparation of solutions, conducting sterile/aseptic techniques, and performing basic molecular biology techniques. Some proficiency with bioinformatics tools and statistics is desired. The ability to keep detailed notebooks and accurate records, and solve basic mathematical equations is required. Experience working with mammalian cell culture and/or mouse animal models is preferred (but not required).
