The opportunity

Position Summary: Leads analytical troubleshooting on and project improvements for automation & controls hardware/software for pharmaceutical manufacturing & packaging equipment

Essential Duties / Functions

  • Lead analysis, troubleshooting & maintenance efforts on the automated controls systems – hardware & software - for the packaging operations & equipment
  • Support & maintain BMS, OEE and site network/server systems
  • Recommends system and process changes to improve overall efficiency of packaging & facilities automation engineering department
  • Partners with line support engineers and packaging technicians to ensure understanding of technical issues and corrective actions on automation & controls systems are taken while minimizing equipment downtime
  • Provide technical support & training for automation & controls line support personnel and packaging technicians
  • Lead automation & controls process continuous improvement/OpEx projects & initiatives
  • Participate in Quality investigations and CAPA’s related to automated control systems
  • Write, track and manage Change Control Requests for the automated control systems
  • Contact, coordinate, and manage efforts with automation/controls service vendors
  • Support automated controls qualifications
  • Adhere to all safety & cGMP regulations & procedures
  • Provide weekend & off-shift onsite and remote support for automation & controls issues as needed

Education

Your experience and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent on-the-job experience/training

Experience

  • Minimum of 10+ years, Automation & Controls engineering experience in cGMP environment
  • Minimum of 5+ years in automated packaging operations

Specialized Skills / Technical Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications

  • Knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practices ( cGMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), OSHA and related federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations and regulatory requirements
  • Strong Understanding of Process Controls and Systems Integration preferably associated with solid oral dose / packaging equipment
  • Independent, motivated individual with ability to deliver on and manage multiple projects
  • Minimum of 3-5 year experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and Wonderware InTouch software. (Control Logix, SLC/PLC5 RSLogix5/500, Industrial Application Server).
  • Ladder Logic Programming, Structured text, High Level Language such as Visual Basic, Strong Computer PC/ Proficiency, Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Basic knowledge of TCP/IP and control networks (Ethernet IP, DH+, DeviceNet etc.) and database experience (Microsoft SQL Server, Industrial SQL)
  • Advanced troubleshooting & problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of working on HMI software (Wonderware, RS view)
  • Knowledge of AB software, Ignition & B&R software/hardware
  • Knowledge of processor & drive back-ups.
  • Experience with VM’s
  • Understanding of safety and equipment procedures
  • Proficient oral and writing communication in English
  • Proficient at communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Physical Demand Requirement

Incumbents in this class are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, pushing and pulling, stooping and crouching climbing and walking, vision to monitor, occasional lifting of equipment or materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Incumbents may be exposed to toxic materials, toxic gases, electrical hazards, and dangerous tools and equipment. Work is performed in a manufacturing environment.
