Job Description:

  • Responsible for planning and conducting interesting large/small group musical-based programs independently, that meet the needs of the adult, geriatric and dementia population as well as age-specific
  • Will utilize the latest musical techniques and methodologies in programming and assist in contributing ideas to the program calendar
  • Facilitate independent/one to one Music Therapy sessions
  • Monitor inventory of musical supplies as needed to carry out programs
  • Transport residents to/from group music programs
  • Documentation of program attendance
  • Assists in developing and planning special musical events
  • Encourage residents to attend programs regularly to improve their quality of life
  • Set up & clean up of activity programs
  • Familiar with a variety of instruments and is able to teach these to the residents.
  • Represents the organization professionally.
  • Promptly reports all needs and concerns to Supervisor or designated alternate.
  • Interacts positively with residents, family members, personnel and visitors under a variety of conditions and circumstances.


Qualifications as a Music Therapist:

  • Board Certified Music Therapist and/or Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy or equivalent
  • At least 2 years’ experience as a Music Therapist working in a Therapeutic Recreation setting (preferred)
  • Pleasant singing voice and proficient on piano/guitar
  • Familiar with a variety of instruments and ability to teach to the residents
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Ability to deal with difficult behaviors
  • The ability to push, pull, lift a minimum of 50lbs or more.
  • Must be fully vaccinated
