Block Institute is a Preschool Special Education program for children ages 3-5. We are located in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn. Our main focus is to educate and ensure the well-being of our students.The position is on a school calendar from 8:30am - 2:30pm, M-F. The Block Institute of Brooklyn, New York is a non-profit, non-sectarian agency dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families. Established in 1962, Block Institute has extensive experience providing individualized services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
Summary: Ensure the safety of children, adults, and staff who use the pool. Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and good working order of the pool.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Enforce all established safety and health rules to provide a safe and comfortable aquatic environment.
Provide proper care for emergencies that occur in the pool and locker room areas.
Maintain a constant presence on the pool deck while any activity is occurring within the pool or pool area.
Assist children with swim techniques from inside the pool.
Wears appropriate swim attire while on duty.
Responsible for ensuring that the pool area is vacant before it is locked, secured, and alarmed.
Check and record Chlorine and PH readings 3x/day at minimum. Notify Aquatics Coordinator and/or maintenance of any chemical issues.
Clean and stores all pool equipment when pool is not in use.
Check all safety equipment and medical supplies on a monthly basis. Notify Aquatics Coordinator if supplies are low.
Vacuum the pool at least 1x/week, or as needed.
Scrub pool scum lines 1x/month, or as needed.
Report broken items to Aquatics Coordinator or maintenance. Assist in preparing orders of pool supplies and materials.
Assist in scheduling all pool activities.
Recommend and assist in organizing appropriate pool/swim activities for children and adults using the pool.
Maintain daily log of who accesses the pool.
General housekeeping of locker rooms and pool deck.
Comply with all policies and procedures of Block Institute’s pool plan.
Comply with all established agency policies and procedures.
Participate in the planning and execution of agency-wide events and other duties as assigned.
Mandatory attendance at required in-service training, along with ability to absorb and demonstrate compliance with all regulations and Block Institute policy and procedure requirements is required for this position.
Attendance/Punctuality: is consistently at work and on time. Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent. Arrives at meetings and appointments on time.
