Position Summary:

SIG is searching for a highly motivated Legal Counsel, Intellectual Property & Product to support its global operations. We are looking for an individual with excellent business judgement and critical thinking who thrives in a fast-paced work environment, is very detail-oriented, possesses strong problem-solving skills, can demonstrate flexibility in a collaborative, dynamic team environment, has excellent writing, negotiation and communication skills, and has the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.


This role will be a key addition to a talented legal department and a close partner to the General Counsel. This individual will advise on a broad scope of legal issues related to intellectual property and product development, including managing SIG’s global IP portfolio and related filings and prosecution (trademark, copyright and patents) and providing strategic guidance on IP protection, enforcement and harvesting as they relate to the company’s products, services and technologies. This role will also represent the company externally in customer, partner and regulatory matters. As a subject matter expert, this individual will help chart the company’s long-term strategy and drive best practices in these critical areas. This role will also be responsible for updating and training others on relevant legal developments and may contribute to IP- and product-related projects across different regions where the company operates.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide pragmatic day-to-day advice and counseling to balance business impact and legal risk on intellectual property matters globally.
  • Partner closely with the General Counsel to develop, implement and maintain policies, practices and processes to improve and scale the company’s IP portfolio and related programs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on high-impact projects, including supporting IP aspects of technology transactions, product development, strategic partnerships and marketing.
  • Support pre-litigation and litigation matters involving the company’s IP and develop and implement strategies for early resolution (as appropriate), managing and supervising outside counsel in coordination with the General Counsel.
  • Respond to relevant inquiries by U.S. federal and state agencies and global regulatory authorities.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in intellectual property laws, regulations and best practices, and evaluate the impact of existing laws, regulatory guidance and enforcement actions, and other related guidelines on SIG’s business.
  • Work and build trust with cross-functional partners from teams across the company.
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as necessary or as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) to six (6) years of relevant experience in one or more areas of intellectual property law. A mix of relevant experience at a leading law firm, in government and/or in-house at a multinational technology company is a plus. Direct experience in one or more of patent prosecution, IP litigation and/or IP portfolio development, maintenance and divestiture is also a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of laws, regulations and industry standards related to intellectual property.
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active and in good standing with a state bar and eligible to practice as registered in-house counsel in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • An ability to collaborate with colleagues and take a business-oriented approach while identifying and balancing legal risks.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, a desire to learn, and an ability to take on and prioritize a wide variety of matters.
  • Well-organized and able to work on tight timelines while handling multiple projects.
