Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Laundry Services (LMIII), the Laundry Manager II will oversee all laundry service operations. Supervises daily activities of staff, make necessary adjustments to achieve production goals for all three Region IV state schools in a timely manner. Assists in supervising and training staff in the proper use of laundry equipment. Ensures that laundry equipment is being operated adequately to maintain production goals. Assists with laundry production reports, employee time management and training. Ensures adequate linen stock levels are maintained. Reviews and sets proper delivery counts for each delivery. Maintains professional rapport with laundry staff, management/administration, vendors and departments. Works under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions

Plans, assigns, supervises and as needed, works with employees to insure maximum flow of laundry production; assists with maintaining supply levels; assist with maintaining records on production, time worked, materials and related factors; assist in developing, planing, and supervising laundry service training programs; and utilizes and monitors equipment for maximum production. “Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location”.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

Knowledge of or ability to learn laundering techniques and procedures, washroom chemistry and linen management; and infection control procedures. Skill in or the ability to learn the operation of laundry machinery and equipment; computer usage including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook or other email programs. Ability to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others; Ability to work independently and use good judgment; Ability maintain records, analyze data, and to prepare concise reports. Ability to lift 40 lbs. assisted or unassisted; Ability to use lower and upper extremities for long periods of time; Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; Ability to become familiar with and demonstrate knowledge of HHS, RSS and Region IV policies, rules and procedure; Ability to read, write and speak English; Ability to be flexible with work hours; Ability to travel to delivery sites and all other DADS sites as necessary.

Registration Or Licensure Requirements

Valid Texas Drivers License required.

Initial Selection Criteria

Experience in laundry operations work is preferred. A minimum of 2 years experience in an institutional / commercial laundry setting or 4yrs in shipping/receiving/production or similar environment within the last 6 years; a minimum of 2 years at supervisory or management level within the last 5 years is required. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Additional Information

All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
