Reporting to the Office of the President, the position of Ombuds provides impartial, informal, independent conflict resolution services and referrals to help prevent, identify, manage and/or resolve workplace conflict for faculty and staff at the University. The role guides individuals to mediation, facilitation and negotiation while honoring the critical elements of an ombudsperson practice, which must include fair and ethical facilitation of the problem-solving process.
Provides professional ombuds support as a designated campus resource for individuals and groups engaged in addressing workplace conflict, issues, or concerns informally as faculty and staff members by listening to constituents, assessing situations and guiding individuals toward effective problem resolutions and options. Consults with department leaders, managers and administrators to establish coordinated efforts to minimize the costs of workplace conflict; develops resources and tools to aid University constituents in fostering a culture of respect, collaboration and problem resolution. (Essential/20%)
Develop and maintain a University presence for the Faculty and Staff Ombuds role and develop education for the community regarding the ombuds support opportunities at the University. (Essential/20%)
Makes informed recommendations regarding improving program effectiveness. (Essential/10%)
Perform duties such as data collection, records maintenance and report preparation. (Essential/5%)
