Crgo is seeking an experienced leader with a strong knowledge of aviation software systems to lead the software architecture, development, and execution of all software components for our autonomous cargo carrying VTOL aircraft system. This is the right position for an individual that is passionate about aviation technology development and has a track record of delivering robust, certifiable, software systems for aerospace products. The person in this position will work closely with the chief engineer responsible for the aircraft and the cross-functional technical leadership team to deliver a commercial product that meets demanding technical and regulatory needs. This position will report to the chief engineer.
Responsibilities
Strategically grow the autonomous aircraft software development team from the ground up
Lead the design, execution and delivery of the entire software stack for the aircraft system
Develop a robust, and deliverable, software architecture for the overall aircraft system
Develop a schedule and budget to deliver a reliable and certifiable software system
Stand-up industry-best software development and management processes
Collaborate with and manage external vendors to achieve product milestones
Proactively and creatively approach problems, burning down technical risks early and throughout the program
Embody a proactive and optimistic approach, bringing a can-do attitude to the workplace every day, fostering a positive and dynamic work environment
Travel up to 25% of the time
Qualifications
Bachelor's or advanced degrees in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
Experience in the development and delivery to a schedule for a complex hardware and software system
Experience developing software across all levels of hardware, complexity and functionality (embedded to cloud)
Experience developing an R&D plan for multiple complex technical projects
Experience developing complex software systems that meet stringent performance, safety and regulatory requirements
Experience in the aviation, automotive, or robotics industry
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain problems and solutions to both technical and non-technical individuals
Excels at collaborating in a fast-paced startup environment with changing priorities, technical requirements, and a growing team
Must be eligible to work in the US without hindrance
Great to have Qualifications and Skills
10+ years of software engineering experience developing and deploying certifiable-grade software in the aerospace or automotive industry
Demonstrated experience successfully developing software for high-reliability, high performance
Experience with DO-178 and similar aerospace industry software standardsEmploy a methodical approach to solving problems
Excellent software engineering skills
