The NYPD strives to foster a safe city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Fiscal Control Section oversees the processing of payments and revenue receipts, manages banking operations for the Department and reviews special expenses for various commands.

The individual filling this vacancy for Director of Audits and Accounts Unit under the direction of the Senior Director, Fiscal Control Section, with latitude for the exercise of independent judgement, action, and decision-making. The Director of Audits and Accounts will oversee several Deputy Directors and various subunits of the Fiscal Control Section which includes the Vendor Payments Unit (process payments to vendors for goods and services), the Imprest Funds Unit (issue checks from several command bank accounts), the Revenue Collections Unit (reconciles revenues and receipts/disbursement to command bank accounts), and Pre-Audit Review (review prospective payments to vendors and compliance with applicable purchasing regulations and documentation requirements). Additionally, during the absence of Senior Director, the Director will assist to oversee the Expenditure Monitoring Unit which reviews and monitors the accounting of confidential (460) expenditures, makes recommendations regarding the formulation and implementation of accounting and auditing programs, policies and procedures to ensure proper fiscal controls are maintained within the accounting of confidential funds.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting and auditing, and four years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience, at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity or supervising a staff performing accounting or auditing work; or
  • A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license and at least 18 months of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising a staff performing accounting or auditing work.

Preferred Skills

  • Candidate must have the ability to review, compare, and interpret figures and data. -Problem solving and communication skills are needed. -Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and QuickBooks.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
