Job Title: Controller/Operations Manager


Firm Summary: A SEC-registered investment adviser that employs an event-driven long/short equity investment strategy focused on the biotechnology sector. The firm launched in 2016 and invests in both the public and private markets on behalf of hedge funds and separate account clients.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform/review daily, weekly and monthly positions, cash, and P&L reconciliations in coordination with prime brokers and administrator
  • Manage EOD trade reconciliations with counterparties and trade allocations booked in the order management system in coordination with middle office support provider
  • Monitor trade break resolution, corporate action processing, and proxy voting
  • Review and approve month-end NAV, capital activity transactions and statements, and management/performance fee calculations
  • Oversee fund financial statement preparation and year-end audits
  • Manage expense processing, payment, and reimbursement process
  • Prepare performance results/portfolio metrics for monthly performance report and marketing presentations
  • Maintain management company general ledgers with assistance from the bookkeeper
  • Assist with regulatory reporting, including Section 13 filings, Form ADV and Form PF
  • Support compliance testing and monitoring efforts with various ad hoc analysis
  • Interact with CEO, CIO and COO/CCO on various analyses, projects, and initiatives
  • Develop/document processes and procedures and identify enhancements to optimize efficiencies, adopt best practices and reduce risk


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years employment at a public accounting firm (auditing asset managers) and/or an alternative asset manager in the accounting and/or operations departments (strong preference for in-house investment management experience)
  • Strong proficiency with Excel required; experience with portfolio management systems, prime broker portals and QuickBooks beneficial
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to spot issues, multi-task, work independently or collaboratively, and willingness to take ownership and accept any task that will benefit a growing organization
  • Excellent project management, organizational skills, work ethic, morals and integrity
