Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience or,
  • Master’s degree and at least one year of relevant experience
  • Experience with individual client appointments (exhibited through counseling, coaching, advising or similar experience).
  • Knowledge of career trends, especially as they relate to traditional college aged students.
  • Strong student advocacy with proven ability to work with a variety of student interests and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising student staff with a focus on developing their skills and capacity to perform higher level duties.
  • Effective team-building skills focused on student interaction/relationships .
  • Experience with new program development and evidence of creative thinking and initiative exercised in the workplace.
  • Highly developed organizational skills with excellent project follow-through ability.
  • Well-developed analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills.
  • Desire to work in a dynamic work environment with a focus on data driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the changes common to career development with a college population.
  • An understanding of the relationship between career development and the Jesuit mission of John Carroll University.
  • Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll’s mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, Counseling, Human Resources, or related field preferred
  • Experience in a career services, human resources, or related higher education office:
    • Career development and/or job-search counseling/coaching
    • Proficiency with personal computers, related hardware/software
    • Demonstrated teaching or presenting skills, preferably on career skills development topics
  • Knowledge of data analytics and strategic planning
  • Ability to provide feedback on personal assessments (Skill Scan, SDS , Strong, etc.)

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Meet with students and alumni in a career coaching capacity related to career development and job search strategies.
  • Present workshops on resume writing, job search, interviewing and other career-related topics.
  • Train and supervise student staff. Oversees Peer Advising Program including selection, supervision and development of peer advisors.
  • Support the Academic Internship program through management and tracking of the internship course registration process and reflection review.
  • Provide support, internally and externally, to other campus internship programs as needed.
  • Assist in developing, promoting and delivering Career Services programs by creating and making presentations for classes and student organizations, and by assisting in coordinating special events, programs, receptions, etc.
  • Assist in the management and execution of the Transferable Skills program and other career development programming.
  • Contribute new ideas and fresh perspectives to the office in an effort to engage students and provide outreach to all of Career Services’ stakeholders.
  • Develop positive relationships with students, student organizations, faculty, parents, alumni, staff, administrators, and colleagues.
  • Contribute to the overall success of career services by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
