You're facing unexpected delays in your AI project. How can you ensure you meet the deadline with success?
Fixing frustration from delays in technical projects is hard, but avoiding them is easy. Set expectations early on with business leaders. Non-technical execs need to have reasonable expectations of timelines and (more importantly) the work that each step entails. When you hit snags, over-communicate why and what resolution will look like. In my experience, when technical teams communicate what they’re doing to resolve issues, deadlines get much softer and everyone ends up more satisfied The trick is translating technical details into language that biz leaders understand. That’s a bigger challenge, but is one of the most important skills to look for as you build your teams

Here's how you can motivate and engage AI team members as a manager.
Practicing what you preach is essential. Don’t just pay lip service to celebrating small victories - just start doing it! Next time someone shares an update with you, take a moment in the next team call to bring it up. It doesn’t matter how minor - what matters is the culture that this creates.

Here's how you can motivate and engage AI team members as a manager.
Democratizing input to AI/ML projects is essential. You never know where a good idea will come from. AI/ML has a mystique that can scare away good ideas from people who don’t consider themselves AI experts. Personally, I’m not shy about chiming in even when I don’t have a full grasp, but I’ve seen so many smart people sit on the sidelines rather than take the risk of speaking up. A few tactics to address this: - Provide opportunities for everyone to speak by pausing at the halfway point of project planning discussions - Establish a baseline understanding of DS principles, ideally led by a non-DS - Coach DS to avoid jargon and unnecessary detail (this will help in sales calls too!)

Here's how you can motivate and engage AI team members as a manager.
Just like any other area, goal setting in AI initiatives has to be a collaboration between product (ie data) and commercial teams. This is easier said than done because often times both sides speak very different languages. So stripping out the jargon and getting down to key requirements is essential. (Ironically, I see more business leaders struggle with this than data scientists!) So I like to start with a blank sheet then fill out a simple framework together: 1. What are we building? (Both sides should come up with their own answers so any misalignment can be ironed out) 2. Why are we building it? (Typically the business team leads the answer) 3. How do we get there? (Typically led by product / DS) With AI/ML, feasibility often gets
