The Puerto Rico Department of Education has AI guidance for schools! This is the first step in their journey and should be followed by listening sessions with their learning communities, a systemwide task force, professional development, deeper instructional guidance, etc. Here are some highlights from my favorite section, "Generative AI and Powerful Question Asking." 💡 Asking clear, specific, and complex questions encourages critical thinking, synthesis, and problem-solving skills, which are human skills. AI strengthens and expands what is already there. 💡 Asking powerful questions empowers users to maximize AI’s potential and promotes independent thinking, both with and without technology. "Formulating powerful questions should not be contingent on technology, but should foster a thinking process that students, teachers, and other staff can apply independently of AI. Learning or studying without technology strengthens everyone’s ability to research, analyze, and reflect independently, skills that are fundamental to their academic and personal development." One way to strengthen math instruction: "giving teachers a voice in their professional development." That's what we're all about at Rekindle Education. Our teachers need the autonomy and flexibility to schedule coaching time that meets their individual K-9 math needs. And it's working. 98% of our teachers who were surveyed agreed that they could take what they learned in math coaching and apply that learning in their classroom. Teachers are professionals.
