Interesting Freightvine interview with Kelly Abney, Chief Logistics Office of the US Postal Service. In part of it, he talks about network changes in the USPS to bend the cost curve on delivery. For several years at Target, I was focused on designing Target's last-mile network for e-commerce ("Direct to Guest") deliveries, and USPS injection was a major component of the network strategy. Georgia Ports Authority is making headlines with impressive growth and leadership. Here’s my summary of their latest press release: In April, GPA handled a record 80,600 units of cargo, a 44% increase from last year. The Port of Savannah moved 441,000 containers, marking an 8% rise in volume. Key leaders were re-elected, ensuring continued success and stability. 𝐓𝐂𝐈 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐀𝐝𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐎𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 TCI Tank Logistics announces it will invest $2 million to expand its intermodal footprint and ease supply chains by adding 1,200 linear feet of new rail that will tie into the New Orleans Public Belt and service customers at the Port of New Orleans. The company is expected to create 40 direct new jobs over the next 10 years with an average annual salary of $60,000, while retaining 41 jobs in Orleans Parish. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will result in 94 indirect new jobs, for a total of 134 potential new jobs in the Southeast Region.  “Six deep draft ports, six Class 1 railroads, seven primary airports and six interstate highways - there is no better place than Louisiana for transportation and logistics companies looking to expand their business,” says LED Secretary Susan B. Keen insights on how freight & shipping carriers are adjusting to the Port of Baltimore closure. Supply chain headaches are spread across shippers (dealing with delays), truckers (driving longer hours) and ocean carriers (rerouting vessels). The Port of New York/NewJersey is handling about one-third of the volume diverted from Baltimore. Georgia ports are also handling a good portion, too.
