A group of 7 UC Berkeley students are working with NGO Tibetan Village Project to design a simple, cost-effective, point-of-use water filtration system for rural communities in Tibet. The project consists of researching possible water filtration techniques, designing and testing a prototype, and traveling to Tibet in May 2013 to implement the finalized system. One of the most challenging aspects of this project is lack of information: about what exactly is in the water, what materials are available, and how to treat water at such high elevations - these villages are above 10,000 ft elevation.
