Lexington Books managed to release my book Disagreeing despite the Data before the election. It argues the belief segregation underway in the US may be irreversible. Today's battles over climate change, disease mitigation, and election results run deep -- they're cognitive, not just strategic. Here's the gist of it. 20th-century revolutions in the philosophy of mind, meaning, and matter uncover three surprising requirements for widespread factual agreement. Critical thinking and community building have the potential to reverse two of them -- the growing refusal to test assumptions and individual isolation. Factual agreement between groups is impossible without the third one, though -- shared projects or other meaningful interaction. And a large part of American society has insulated itself from the rest. Without shared projects, communities gradually lose the ability to tell whether they agree or not regardless of the words they use. Belief segregation with similar roots has led several developing countries to the brink of failure. We'd better watch out. Gathering my notes and framework for my next piece on one of the platforms I write for. The title of this one is **“THE WAR ON INNOVATION.”** I’m diving into why corporate innovation fails time and again while the big dollars are funneled towards tech that prioritizes the immediacy of war. There’s “perfect,” and there’s “good enough” – and sometimes the latter is all you get. Case in point: During my first tour in the Invasion of Iraq, we didn’t even have bulletproof vests or armor for our trucks… those came in the second tour. Our government thought Marines on the ground with bullets is good enough and for the most part it was How can we get business leaders to do REAL innovation and accept GOOD enough NOT PERFECT The Iraqi Republican Guard dropped heaps upon heaps upon heaps of weapons and ran from us Marines. A new era of deep tech has emerged. First time funds will raise “unheard of” amounts of capital to fuel next gen deep tech startups - producing outsized, superior returns for LP’s compared to the rest. Prudent investors will act on this data and shift investment strategy as LP’s or risk being left behind savvy wealth managers and CIO’s / FO’s who saw this trend begin 4 years ago.
