The developers of Brownfield Site lands must perform additional development to " clean up " the land and use advanced and specialized appraisal analysis techniques to ensure appropriate clean-up. The City of Buffalo’s desire to create a vibrant downtown core would have been aided by having the new Bills stadium constructed downtown. The taxpayers are covering about $1B in this investment, it would have been best spent where it would do the most good. The Sabres arena, which will soon need a significant renovation, will present another opportunity to create a modern sporting venue/destination in downtown Buffalo (see what the Carolina Hurricanes are doing with their existing facility, which is about the same age as Buffalo’s). // As the downtown Buffalo core continues to lose foot traffic/business because of the WFH paradigm shift, new residential construction continues to abound in the far reaches of Buffalo’s suburbs, an urban growth boundary would help: https://lnkd.in/eMsWZ6sz The region’s population is stagnant, yet we continue to build residences on our outer edges. // Finally, not everyone who has kids can afford private education. Once their children become school aged they are effectively being forced out of the City to find good/high-performing, public schools. Navigating the City’s public school enrollment system is complex and time-consuming. Just getting your kids enrolled in a school is difficult/opaque. Part of this is educational, as City residents should be made aware that the amount they pay in school taxes in the suburbs will just about cover the cost of a private school, but this only holds true for the first child.

DEC’s Environmental Facilities Corp. Reports $26B Backlog of Drinking/Clean Water Projects ALBANY—The NYS Environmental Facilities Corporation has provided financing for more than 2,000 essential local water infrastructure projects totaling more than $23.7 billion since 1990. Its estimated capital improvement needs for water and sewer projects far exceeds this amount, and tens of billions of dollars in local projects remain in the pipeline, according to a report released by Office of the NYS Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli . The most recent US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assessments estimated 20-year capital improvement needs of $28.7 billion for clean water projects and $35.1 billion for drinking water projects in the state. The EPA also estimated that New York has more than 494,000 lead service lines in need of replacement, among the highest in the nation. While the revolving fund programs have financed many vital projects, EFC’s 2024 Intended Use Plan showed a Clean Water State Revolving Fund backlog of 876 projects with estimated costs of $17.9 billion, and a Drinking Water State Revolving Fund backlog of 1,004 projects with estimated costs of $8.3 billion, together totaling $26.1 billion. Between 1990 and 2022, New York has spent $18.2 billion for the CWSRF and $5.5 billion for its DWSRF, topping California, Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania. New York’s cumulative CWSRF spending almost doubled that of California ($10.6 billion), the next highest spender, and was more than other large states on DWSRF Project Assistance Disbursed, and for project starts and completions. The federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 is estimated to make $2.5 billion available for these programs and will target projects that address emerging contaminants, climate change, bioterrorism, disadvantaged communities, and replacement of lead water service lines. Additional funding ($5.4 billion) has come from state grant appropriations since 2015, of which $1.4 billion has been spent. Mr. DiNapoli said, “New York has spent more on clean water and drinking water projects than any other state, but the resources needed to address aging infrastructure and related challenges remain significant. The state should build on its efforts to help communities access funding to ensure the success of these programs continues.” EFC is a public benefit corporation that provides financing assistance through grants, loans, and technical expertise to state and local entities, as well as some businesses. The corporation receives state and federal funds and allocates them to participating entities. Major programs include the CWSRF and the DWSRF, which are federally supported. EFC uses these resources along with state funds to provide subsidized loans and grants to municipalities for drinking water, wastewater treatment, and other projects, with interest and loan repayments used to finance additional projects. #cleanwater #drinkingwater #conservation

We’re excited to announce our very own Director of Construction, Tyler Troutman, has been recognized as one of Lehigh Valley Business’ 2024 Forty Under 40 honorees! Honorees, selected by the Lehigh Valley Business leadership team and a panel of previous winners, were chosen based on professional accomplishments, community service and commitment to inspiring change. This month, LVB will recognize both Tyler’s leadership here at SAGE as well as his commitment to service in the Lehigh Valley, at their annual Forty Under 40 Awards on September 12th. Tyler joined SAGE in April of 2022. Our President, Joe Landrigan comments “Tyler’s integrity and authenticity is evident in the work he performs every day. I’m excited to see the challenges ahead for Tyler with the growth of SAGE and I’m confident that he is up for the challenge and that he will exceed my expectations!” Q: What differentiates SAGE?  Tyler: SAGE is a small firm but the wisdom embodied in our team is from a culmination of decades of experience in the industry. Through his experience and longstanding relationships with a variety of subcontractors within the industry, Tyler asks the right questions and selects the best team for each project. Tyler understands the importance of selecting subcontractors for a specific project based on their geographic reach, experience, size, and ability to execute the project effectively, while maintaining the overall budget for the project. Tyler leads by example, and by effectively delegating, allows other team members to shine through on the projects. This makes him the leader that he is, a quiet, natural leader. Q: Describe a favorite memory working with Tyler. Joe: One significant memory working with Tyler came during a meeting with a potential new client late last year. This meeting was requested by the client as a simple Q&A of our proposal submission. It turns out they expected a full-on presentation of the SAGE experience and how we planned to handle their project! Tyler had already anticipated this and had our entire team prepared with roles and responsibilities for the presentation. He then led the presentation professionally, without any hesitation. In doing so, the rest of our team expertly followed suit. This reinforced my trust in Tyler as our Director of Construction here at SAGE and showed his natural role as a leader.
