Tori C. from Amazon just posted for a Principal Product Manager opening on their team. I am going to start posting less product manager roles on LinkedIn and start moving these posts over to Skool and this is because I am getting blown up by hiring managers telling me to stop posting jobs they are posting on LinkedIn. This didn’t make any sense to me until I started speaking with more hiring managers about how their inbox is blown up with just horrible messages. My mission is to help as many aspiring and experience product managers land their next product manager role, but y’all have to help me out by sending better messages. Sending a generic, “I am interested” or “I applied” or “did you get my application” offers no value and it won’t help you land your next product manager job. If anything it’s only leaving a negative or at best forgettable impression to somebody who just might be your future boss. So do yourself a favor and steal my message templates in Skool, follow up, and have real conversations with hiring managers. The biggest mistakes product managers are making beyond sending out bad messages is not following up. There is reason why we have included 8 follow up slots on the Airtable and that because you NEED to follow up with your applications. You already spent the time applying so you might as well maximize your list until you get a definitive rejection, because you are only one application and one interview away from landing your next product manager role. PS Stop overlooking the smaller companies and apply to them. Seriously! I usually get 3,000 to 6,000+ impressions when I post a product manager job for a bigger company; but I only get 900 impressions when I post for roles at companies nobody has heard of. There is nothing wrong with those companies and I challenge you to interview with them. God knows you need the practice. If you want other people to give you a shot, then you need to give companies a shot too. You want hiring teams to start treating you like a like human instead of a number, then stop applying and interview for product managers like they are another number. California Department of Motor Vehicles - if you're out there... @Prashant Mittal Matthew Renda, Kitan García I know this is a long shot, but I have tried contacting DMV directly, and I've contacted my state representatives. Please help. There is a bug on the California DMV website when trying to book an appointment for a motorcycle driving test. (https://lnkd.in/gh3jYfYx) On clicking Schedule Appointment (last step) you receive an error: "SafetyCourseCompleted element must be present (true or false) for motorcycle test". There is no button or box exposed in the web form that asks about a Safety Course. Please either expose the box, or lift the validation requirement that it be checked. SVP of Product is looking for an Upstream Product Manager position and the pay range is $98.96 - $114.59/Hour. Product managers that are being staffed by tech recruiting agencies in this market are some of the best roles to target as a candidate. There are two type of recruiters in tech. There are internal recruiters who work in house and external recruiters at agency who are paid a commission by the company to staff an extremely urgent role. 80% of the positions in tech haven’t even been posted yet, because everybody procrastinates doing work they and there’s nothing a refuting hates more than posting up jobs. Yuck, just writing this out brings back such painful memories. Important update: You can now start a company on H-1B even if you have more than 50% equity in it! Last week, USCIS updated its FAQs around H-1B, green cards, and more, providing clarity and flexibility for H-1B workers and their families. Here are 5 key points from the updated FAQs: - You CAN file an H-1B petition through a company you incorporated, even if you own over 50% equity, as long as you can demonstrate an employer-employee relationship. - You can switch employers on your H-1B as soon as you file through the new employer. - Your priority date for a green card is secured upon I-140 approval. - Once I-140 is approved for 180 days, your employer cannot withdraw it. - You do not need an approved I-140 the entire time you are waiting for an immigrant visa. This update signifies the U.S.'s openness to immigrants using the H-1B to start companies. Please re-share to help more people! 🙏

Having lived in SF bay area for so long, I came to know the big coffee culture scene here. I was totally consumed by it a while ago and spent years trying to attain the “perfect" latte. I published a fun coffee story and my entire home setup, which took weeks of research and multiple iterations, in my blog link in bio. Meanwhile, to all fellow coffee loving tech peeps, here are some top tips that no one told me. Put it in practice at home or in microkitchens. - A big factor in preparing milk suitable for latte art is pressure of the wand. If this is important to you, you need to get a machine that has a strong enough pressure. - When pulling shots, put in 18g of beans and extract 30g of espresso. - The darker the roast, the coarser the setting should be on the grinder, the lighter the roast, the finer the setting should be. - When adjusting the grind setting, do so while the grinder is working if there are beans in the hopper. Otherwise, a bean can get stuck between the burrrs. - Pulling a shot should take 20-30 sec in time, or based on observation. It should look like caramel going out, not a waterfall. - Eventually work your way to using a bottomless portafilter. It punishes you for all the small imperfections when preparing your coffee puck, like any tilt, and uneven distribution. It does so by spraying the espresso all over the place. The more you can get it to flow uniformly, the better your preparation of espresso, objectively. - Seal your beans in a vacuum, so they don’t go stale. The more stale the beans, the more minor adjustment you need to make to grind finer. - When steaming milk in your pitcher, you can tell if it’s done by holding the pitcher and as soon as the heat becomes unbearable i.e. stings, it’s done. - Taking a latte art course at a local coffee shop was the best boost for me to start nailing latte art.

I co-presented a "Male Allies" talk last month at an Amazon conference with the extremely talented Natalie White and thought I'd share here (pt 1). An ally is a person who *actively* supports the rights of a marginalized group that they are not a member of. "Ally" is not a label that you get to assign yourself through your intentions, it's a badge you earn through your *intentional actions.* Allies can't just "not be a bad guy" - you have to actually be the good guy and good guys lend a hand and help out. Helping out doesn't mean being a "Hero" or a "Rescuer" - situations that require heroics are rare and people who are members of marginalized groups are fully capable of being their own heroes. Being an Ally means taking steady and regular actions in the moment (daily!) to make space, question, correct lightly, and set an expectation of equity so that your colleagues don't have to do this all by themselves - on top of their other work - on top of the inequities that make that work harder. Natalie's talk that I contributed to focused on gender allies because men in software have an outsized ability to act as allies to women and non-binary people in US corporate tech culture. Tech companies like Amazon have more men in leadership roles, women enter tech fields at a lower rate (US), and exit computer science at shorter tenures than men - with research showing that bad culture is one of the biggest reasons for that departure. Men benefit from a host of tech gender stereotypes - in that they don't suffer the same harms of micro-aggressions ("smile more!"), cultural expectations ("she'll volunteer to be the note taker!"), and conflicting standards ("He's a direct leader! She's a B!"). We simply just benefit from being the majority gender of the computer science field - and not because we're more capable (we're not). Being an Ally is the right thing to do as a person, for our colleagues, and as an imperative to make our workplaces more diverse (companies with higher diversity perform better), equitable (fairness ensures higher performance and engagement by our people), and inclusive (feeling included where we spend so much of our lives makes us happier and healthier people - and perform better). While men have a lot to do as allies in software, there is room for all of us be allies to someone - to the only quality engineer in the team, to the person on the team who immigrated from another country, to the person who looks "different" from others in the team, and yes - even to graduates of Ohio State (spoiler - I went to the University of Michigan).
