PRWeek's great 2024 Business Report highlights the key challenge facing our industry. Communications is more important than ever. Comms and policy leaders are being asked to play far larger roles as business partners supporting ever more stakeholders. So why did the industry suffer so much in 2023 after many years of growth? As an sector, we are not adapting fast enough to the needs. Organizations are desperate for help but also under tremendous financial strain. They now need both senior level counsel and advisory support as well as deep domain expertise to actually produce. By and large, our industry is still split by this chasm - between strategic and tactical. Clients cannot afford to separate these, either in time or money. Great to hear from leaders representing Dubai Airports, Expo City Dubai, Globacap, Jumeirah, Mashreq, Microsoft UAE, Saudi Tourism Authority | الهيئة السعودية للسياحة, Serviceplan Group Middle East, TECOM Group Dubai, Tough Love, Wio Bank, among others at the CMO Conversation. Top marketers shared their open and honest take on: - the role of CMOs on the Executive Committee (ExCo), - procurement problems, - differentiating value from the data and tools that drive it, - the need for patience and a long-term approach to building a brand, as well as - getting back to the basics of creating value, customer experience and personalisation. ... during the closed-door roundtable discussions organised by The Marketing Society, Dubai Lynx International Festival of Creativity, and Campaign Middle East. Sneak-peek: "CMOs are not invited to that table because very often we don’t understand the metrics of the business, or we don’t use the same metrics of success. I’ve seen good relationship with CFOs when they understand the marketing metrics, and we understand the financial metrics." It is up to the CMOs to develop not only a good relationship with the CEOs, CFOs, CTOs and CIOs, but also to understand what each of those roles entail, and find a way to demonstrate the value of brand and marketing to each of them. “This means that the CMO has to be the jack-of-all-trades: must understand technology and be able to go toe-to-toe with the CTO; must be able to read the P&L and explain the value derived for the brand from the budgets pitched; must be able to explain the long-term sustainable benefits of building a brand that go beyond the advanced analytics, predictive insights, and the short-term financial value tied to performance marketing.” #Marketing #CMOs #Challenges #ExCo #Procurement #Value #CX
