Centuries to parity for Black Americans “The nation’s suburbs and exurbs have the highest overall Black outcome scores. They come out on top or as runner-up across seven of our eight aspirations, leading in metrics such as median household income ($79,000), workers in management roles (36 percent), life expectancy (78 years), and bachelor’s degree attainment (29 percent). But less than 12 percent of Black Americans live in the urban periphery, five percentage points lower than the share of the total US population in this community profile.” McKinsey does not do normative analysis but we do and so do hundreds of scholars and policy wonks. The way to improving the situation for Black people in America is not opaque and unknowable. We need to get to work. As Black women assume more leadership positions across industries they are coming under attack in a variety of ways. The goalpost for success and credibility is constantly being moved backward or redefined. Therefore, the way attacks are crafted and deployed is also changing. There’s a 90% wealth gap between Black and white households. 2/3 of the wealth gap is driven by an earnings gap. Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women is an approach to help narrow the gap and drive economic growth in the U.S.

Consulting is a byproduct of a white supremacy culture. This has produced and is wed to our traditional ways of operating – working within a hierarchy, consultants as experts who tell us what to do, and pleasing donors because wealth=power. At PENN Creative Strategy, we are passionate about helping organizations share power with all people.
