Presidio Tunnel Tops, San Francisco
- Present
14-acre tunnel top parkland bridging the Presidio with Crissy Field, the Marsh and the larger bay. The proposed parkland would maximize the panoramic and connective assets of the surroundings, choreographing the best vantage points with dramatic new pathways, overlooks, lawns, gardens and social spaces. The Tunnel Tops would be San Francisco’s new destination and shared living room; a place to meet and learn, to experience, to enjoy and to forge new forms of community and events.

Shaped by extensive public participation, the design creates a contemporary and transformative series of gardens and active spaces that symbolically redefine and interconnect the center of Santa Monica.
Inspired by the Southern California arroyo landscape of washes and ravines that once defined the site, a series of braided pathways appear to organically emerge from the footsteps of City Hall, extend west, and weave the park into the fabric of the City. Dramatic rising and falling topography reinforces the fluid pathway system and organize the site into four thematic hilltop areas, each calibrated to a different primary use and experience. -
NewActon, Canberra ACT
-
The New Acton precinct is an exciting project situated in the centre of Canberra and within the NCA Griffin Legacy Plan. It comprises a series of mixed use buildings surrounding a heritage building which has been transformed into a hotel. The site aims to act as a stage for public art works and create a 24/7 precinct. It consists of a series of streetscapes, courtyards and podium gardens that make up the urban environment.

The master plan strongly established principles of connectivity and permeability, whereby the Town Centre was firmly embedded into the wider region by means of visual and physical links to key landscape elements such as Caddies Creek, Mungerie House heritage precinct, parks and streets.
Rouse Hill Town Centre’s basic structure features two main streets intersecting at the Town Square and dividing the town centre into four quadrants. A continuous circuit of pedestrian laneways, running through the heart of each quadrant and connecting back to the main streets, provides the primary pedestrian circulation route and links a variety of spaces along its length. The public domain design sought to create a richer, more sequential experience. A unique approach to place-making was adopted for the design whereby for each particular space, the qualities of similar successful spaces were analysed, the ‘layers’ that contributed towards creating a rich urban environment identified, and designs then developed, reviewed and tested. -
