A rapidly-growing fast casual Asian concept based in Chicago, with 700 locations across the country and meals available in grocery stores for additional distribution, has broken down another wall after making innovation a consistent North Star for their company since its founding in 2003. Wow Bao has partnered with leading in-game experience studio Sawhorse Productions to introduce the Dim Sum Palace to Roblox users, and emergent tech loyalty services provider Flaunt to tie in their “Hot Buns Club.” Wow Bao’s Dim Sum Palace is a virtual hangout that serves as an extension of the chains’ loyalty program that began as a simple “point for dollar” exchange but has evolved to experiment with NFTs, other digital collectibles, and now this Roblox integration. 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚? Players are greeted by a DJ and can explore lounge areas, Momo’s Restaurant and a hidden speakeasy. The interactive 3D environment also carries Wow Bao paraphernalia and clues guests can follow to discover a head accessory for their Roblox avatar. However, to claim this gear and have a chance at other prizes, players must visit a campaign website and sign up for the Hot Buns Club reward program – making them the first fast-casual restaurant to gate in-game items behind a reward initiative like this. 𝙈𝙮 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨... There have been two camps of thought around in-game experiences. Neither is necessarily wrong, but you have the marketers who understand the prestige and relevancy that an in-game build can bring to your brand when there is a warm enough reception. It’s a top or middle-funnel play that shares in the player base already captivated by the title in question and allows you to integrate your brand aesthetic and ethos into a unique and trendy medium that folks are still clamoring over. Then, you have those who historically have not been able to bite the bullet on the investment needed for an immersive enough build, therefore ignoring or writing off the channel entirely because the return is more ambiguous than they can be comfortable with. In digital media, why drop $100K-$500K on an experience where the reporting capabilities and level of detail is still evolving when you can use that same budget on inventory that will tell you exactly who your brand was able to communicate with and what actions were taken immediately afterward that might have directly led to revenue? Campaigns like this one by Wow Bao are showing how, with the right strategic planning and partnership infrastructure, it’s only a matter of time before those camps cozy up to one another and everyone wins. Out of high school, I didn't go straight into college. I went into the workforce. I got a job at the Oakland Tribune selling retail advertising. This was in 1999 at the peak of the dot com phenomenon. Now, after 25 years in the ad game, here are the top 3 lessons: 1) Always have a next step!  When someone reads your ad, there should be a clear call to action to one of your highest converting landing pages. This could be your opt-in page where you give away a free video or .pdf... Or you can send folks directly to a sales letter for one of your great front-end offers that converts. Remember: When you start spending money on advertising, you need to have a system in place that can turn those clicks into profit within minutes... So you can recoup your advertising expenses fast and cycle them back into more ads for more sales. 2) Engineer an automated selling machine! With advertising, you can reach millions of people per day. Traffic is no longer a problem. Once you're getting a positive return on your ad spend, you can scale your reach every day without going out of pocket any extra money. Just keep cycling your revenue back into more ads to create a snowball effect in your reach and sales. But... If you're having to do coaching after each sale... You won't be able to scale your ads and campaigns because you become the bottleneck. This is why I recommend selling simple low ticket info-products at first. You don't need any fancy funnel software for this. The tech is super simple. Any landing page builder and shopping cart are more than enough. 3) Test more! Way too many folks put out one or two ads and then give up because their first attempt wasn't a blazing success. Look... Advertising is a lot like baseball when it comes to the numbers. The average batting average of MLB hall of famers is .303.  This means that the best players ever were called 'out' 7 times for every 3 hits. That's more than twice as often. In advertising, I don't even have that good of a hit rate. I'm about 2 hits for every 10 tests. Which means I can have a bad-streak of 7 or 8 ads in a row that don't convert! So, test more. Make sure you're launching 10 or 20 ads over the next couple of months to give yourself enough at-bats to get a base hit! Now, this can seem daunting if you don't have experience writing ads... And honestly... Writing ads becomes daunting even with experience.  Having to sit down at my laptop and write for an hour or two, multiple times per week is draining. But no one else on my team could write great ads for our brands... So I went on a mission to figure out how to get AI to write ads that out-perform my best ads. As of May, the free, ad-supported streaming service was taking 1.8% of monthly television viewing across streaming platforms, tying with Disney+ and beating Max, Paramount+ and Peacock, according to Nielsen Gauge. It could be considered a win in the streaming wars. Tubi, though, doesn’t consider itself to be part of said wars, according to ​​Tubi CMO Nicole Parlapiano. “We are in a category of our own in that way. A lot of people like to put us in the same grouping with the other free streamers. But our product experience is so different because the Roku and Pluto [platforms], all the linear, FAST channels, it’s not really VOD viewing.” the CMO said. “Then the other comparisons are being drawn to the other ad-supported tiers. At Amazon and Netflix, people are still paying to watch ads, but it is also very different. I’ve seen the streaming war. Some people are winning and some people, it’s been a rough go. It’s been hard on the industry as a whole. We have a lot of empathy for everybody. ✅🖥️ Variety (6/26): “When the news program “CBS News 24/7” surfaces Wednesday morning on streaming venues, it may surprise the average information junkie. There’s no typical anchor behind a desk here. Instead, on-screen hosts too busy to read scripted lines from a teleprompter will guide viewers from one story to the next, many of which are happening in real time. All are displayed prominently on a screen of insta-feeds from CBS newsrooms around the nation or from points of interest around the world. When it’s time to move beyond the quick headline, or some chatter about what’s happening at the moment, the host is meant to identify the feed, then let viewers hear from people and experts on the ground. It’s entirely possible that a host might start talking to producers and assignment editors while on camera about what’s going on in the feeds and what needs to be looked at first. CBS will stream hours of the show at 10 a.m. from New York, led by Vladimir Duthiers, and at 1 p.m. from San Francisco, guided by Reed Cowan.
