Reaching 1,000 turbine aircraft transactions marked an exciting milestone for Joseph Carfagna, Jr. and the Leading Edge Aviation Solutions, LLC team. However, for them, it was simply "business as usual" in their relentless pursuit of deals and client satisfaction. The milestone was reached with three Gulfstream Aerospace transactions, underscoring the company's longevity and success since its founding in 1989 by Joseph L. Carfagna Sr. “We have always prided ourselves on being one of the brokerage firms that’s been around the longest, and this number is a testament to that,” said Carfagna Jr. The 998th, 999th, and 1,000th transactions were all for Gulfstream G450s, highlighting the strong relationships Leading Edge has built with repeat clients. Reflecting on the journey, Carfagna Jr. noted, “In 1994, when I came onboard, we were a very different company – there was no email or internet, so everything moved at a much slower pace, but the principles of what we do are still the same.” Among the 1,000 transactions, Leading Edge has completed deals on: - 242 Gulfstreams - 225 Cessna Aircraft Company Citations - 131 Hawker Aircraft (Textron Aviation) - 126 Bombardier Challenger and Globals - 121 Dassault Aviation Falcons The secret to this success? “Doing things methodically and having good people. You can’t buy experience,” said Carfagna Jr. His father, Joseph Carfagna Sr., began his business aviation career in 1967, selling new airplanes alongside Bill Lear. One of his first sales was to the golfer Jack Nicklaus. Carfagna Sr. founded Executive Air Fleet (EAF) in 1970 and Wings Aviation International in 1989, which eventually became Leading Edge Aviation Solutions. Carfagna Jr. recalls his first deal vividly, “It was the sale of a Citation 3. It was a moment I won’t forget any time soon.” After nearly 30 years in the industry, Carfagna Jr. is rarely fazed. “There really isn’t much we haven’t seen – we’ve bought and sold airplanes all over the world.” One memorable deal involved the sale of an airplane right after the financial crash in September 2008. “The parties were arguing over who was to get the china and flatware in the airplane,” Carfagna Jr. said. His quick decision-making saved the client $8 million. Carfagna Jr. is captivated by technological advancements in airplanes, noting that manufacturers' ambitions remain unchanged: efficiency, quiet operation, cost-effectiveness, and speed. For Carfagna Jr., business aviation is in his blood.
