Knoll

The Nexus Collection, consists of three patterns, seven to eight color ways each. The designs use a singular element; line, to tell a story about transparency, opacity, light and shadow. There is a lot of movement in each of the designs, which are either 24" x 54" or 36" x 54" repeats. The Nexus Collection is printed for commercial wall covering.

The project started with three categories. Each of the designs were inspired by those categories: Bark, Infinity & Fractals. After developing patterns for about three months, the team at Starwood narrowed down the pattern selection to 16 patterns to be developed into carpet, walls, drapery, upholstery and pillows; both woven and printed for the guest rooms and corridors in the new and newly renovated Westin Hotels.

The in-house design group for MGM commissioned a series of murals designed by Julie Gamble and myself. The murals were manufactured using multiple techniques: rotogravure printed then embossed then then tip printed then silkscreened before being hung in a very exacting sequence. Each mural consisted of 4 panels. The murals were hung in the guest rooms and corridors throughout the Bellagio.

Technically challenging and research-driven, recreation of the wallpaper FDR selected and hung in his suite while studying at Harvard University.

Surface Over Structure
-
A design competition amongst the architecture graduate students at Harvards Graduate School of Design. Pei instructed the students in technical production, and required them to create wallpaper that changed the perception of the space 2-dimensionally, rather than their trained 3-dimensional approach. The results were hundreds of captivating ideas. A jury of design professionals selected the resulting winners.
