Why are we letting AI take over job application sorting? For Human Resources, why are we letting robots and programs sort through potential applicants who may or may not be a perfect fit? Human Resources should be run by just that:humans. I've had conversations with multiple people who were overqualified for the roles they applied for, only to received an automated email stating they "did not meet qualifications." One even ended up getting the job after being promoted from another job within the company, and when asked why they didn't apply for the job sooner, HR was shocked to learn that they had because they never even saw the person's resume to begin with. It has gotten so bad that I've seen applicants copy and paste the entire job listing in white text on their resume just to match up the job's "keywords." If we have to cheat and gimmick our way into even having our resumes SEEN, don't we think it's about time to change the system and stop letting potentially amazing candidates slip away just because their resume doesn't fit an AI's standards? Resumes are meant to show our qualifications and experience, and more importantly, who we are. I should not be getting turned away just because my vocabulary is different. Stop using AI to select candidates.

Mini Gear Grinder... not a crazy one, just a mini one... Candidates: when replying to Posts that have jobs listed, multiple companies / Games Studios, etc. within them. A comment of "I am interested" does not do you much good. A comment of "I am interested in the following role at XYZ company" is however helpful. Seeing so many of these & I love that you're interested in the roles posted, but which ones? Help the Recruiter or the people out that are putting the resources in front of you & let them know what you're interested in. ⚙ The job? Which one, we have 5+ listed. ⚙ The company? Which one, as some of these posts list 5+ organizations. ⚙ The person posting? Let's keep it PC / PG here people, I'm not advocating for weirdness 😝 I'm referring to a conversation or asking for help where you need it potentially. Don't be creepy, please do not be creepy! ⚙ The products they make? Etc., etc. Identify a bit deeper... Help them help you! 😁 Keep fighting the good fight everyone! Not that I thought I was immune, but the great tech industry culling has finally reached me. After nearly 11 years of filling roles at WB Games, I'm on the other side of the fence and looking for a new role for myself - and I've kind of forgotten how to do that. 😅 I've also been really bad at keeping up on this platform, so I'll just update everyone with a quick insight or two to catch everyone up, and then end with a request, because job hunting requires it. Layoffs are gutting, no matter how you look at them. People have feelings - A LOT of feelings. Sometimes there is relief, exhilaration, and optimism; often there is frustration, bitterness, despair, and sadness; and usually there is a combination of all of the above. A lot of times, even when trying to manage those feelings, they come out when people talk about their experiences. I've always tried to view any candidates I've spoken with who have been through a recent layoff through a lens that is sympathetic to those experiences, and I sincerely hope that if anyone is talking with me, they can do the same. WB Games has been good to me, for over 20% of my life. It continues to be supportive of me now that I'm no longer there, and I am grateful for that. It's been a good place to call "home" for my career and I still fervently believe in the people and what the teams are doing. The community of the games division, from leaders at the top, all the way to the worker bees at the bottom of the ladder that make everything function, are some of the most talented and thoughtful people I've ever had the privilege to call co-workers. I may have some bitterness about being let go, but none of that is directed to the people who make up Games. I would REALLY like to take a few weeks to not think about what happens next. I'd like to enjoy some time to hang with my family, play some games, work on some crafts, finish building Barad Dur. I'd like the time to process my feelings so that I don't have to tactfully dance around any negative ones in interviews. With that in mind, I'm not actively looking for new roles for the rest of the month. But if some happen to show up in my inbox, I do have an updated resume ready to submit. Finally - a request. I REALLY dislike asking people for LinkedIn recommendations through 'the system'. Instead, I'm putting out a note here, to anyone still reading. If I've worked with you (hiring manager, candidate, partner, anything), and you feel inclined to write up something helpful, please do so. I don't want to guilt anyone into it, or make people feel awkward for not doing it. Simply write up something if it's the sort of thing you want to do. And if you read this far and don't want to write anything, that's okay too. Thank you for reading all of this, and for being part of my journey so far. I appreciate you all more than you probably realize. :)
