In order to measure image chromatic distortion between 1/8 and ½ a pixel, we needed to measure image features one order of magnitude smaller: We achieved 0,01 to 0,03 pixel ... In order to prove the amount of bias in an image, we used image compression as a metric: 4 bias sources added together amount to 1/3 of lost image compression. One third of the compressed image file is bias. In order to show how bad telemetry was, we showed how image scale accuracy could be made more accurate, 10e-5 to 10e-10 m scale accuracy improvement, 5 digits more, by removing one single bias source, there are 3 more at least. In doing so, the image center moves 3 pixels, and the aim shifts... We can prove our approach retains true object geometry, its imposed in the math formulation we use. Our approach leads to the only missing knowledge in #digitalimaging: How to model a zooming lens. ISO (International Standard Organization) identified this very specific gap in technology as THE missing factor slowing adoption of what is already the second most deployed digital technology after the microchip. To bring a sort of AMR robot from nothing to functional prototype you can demo, one way or another you're spending 1M$+ (with current state of world). Depending on scope, it's a little less or much much more. Why? Engineers lack the complete skillset to deliver on the project, and so they need to learn through the project - increasing the cost of development and adding unknown levels of risk. You might say - well of course you're going to learn skills on the job, and I would agree. However in most trades you have apprentices, journeymans and masters. The job will have someone who can guide, mentor, coach and correct those who are learning. In R&D projects, I often don't see this. You might have an ME who knows how to design a gearbox, but doesn't know how to bring up a motor. You might have a full stack SW engineer that's written many websites but never spoken to a firmware interface. The gap in knowledge is workable, but the problem is there's often not someone who can bring it all together technically - eg the systems engineer. So what ends up happening is different domains try to self teach to cover the gaps. This self taught path, while necissary due to the gap in team knowledge, is costly, time consuming and adds risk to the project delivery. If you want to save substantual pain, reduce stress, reduce development costs and reduce the time of delivery - find and invest in a systems engineer on your project. They will cost you much more, but they'll save you far more in the long run.
