Have you ever felt stuck… overanalyzing every business decision? Back in the early years of our packaging company, David and I would take Wednesday afternoons off… to go golfing! We weren't pros, but after working 7 days a week, an afternoon on the links felt justified. We'd hit up this little par 3 course nearby, complete with a meandering creek that posed a challenge right at the first hole. You had two options: play it safe and land before the creek, or go big and aim to clear it. I always went for the long shot, aiming to get closer to the green. Every dang time, my ball ended up… in the creek. David, ever the voice of reason, suggested I play it short to avoid the penalty stroke. Being stubborn, I kept going long and kept landing in the water. Frustration mounted; I even threw my club once! But I refused to let that creek win. Then one day, about six months later, we were back at the first hole. I teed off without even thinking about the creek. Swing. Hit. The ball soared right over it! David asked what I did differently. That’s when it hit me: I didn’t overanalyze the problem.
