How can you network effectively when leading a team?
First, as the lead says, “involve your team.” But, have pre-agreements about outcomes and approach. Also, having a unified style or system established with the team helps it all to be effective and natural while strategically executing on the goals. There are really solid methods and workshops out there but make sure everyone is at least committed if not skillfully prepared for each opportunity. Then, it comes down to disciplined follow up, notes in the CRM from everyone for everyone, and some form of group after-action with notes on individual contributions. Occasionally, however, make sure it is purely about community and social capital. Enjoy the culture because otherwise, what’s the point?

What are some ways to build resilience in a family business?
It's not about the business or the enterprise, per se, if you have a generational perspective with the goal being to help each member of the family (blood and affinity) to grow in their own capabilities and capacities. Help them discover the entrepreneurial spirit inside of them and use the enterprise and capital to nurture the rising generations of new enterprises. Define the virtues and principles that lead to success and truly lead each member and the whole toward their own growth and development. Invest in and cultivate the long-term human capital; there will always be an enterprising family.

How can game developers increase their productivity?
Perhaps one thing to think about is your role in the whole project. My experience is limited to working with those entrepreneurial game developers who are building something for the first time, driven by their vision, likely coding it themselves or, perhaps, hiring someone else to execute the vision. For them, like in any other entrepreneurial endeavor, we need to think long and hard about monetization from the standpoint of customer acquisition costs compared to lifetime customer value. This can be the signal you need to get started or not. But, even then, a successful launch can become problematic when a game needs to be updated or improved. What are the marginal costs and benefits of continuing to update or upgrade a game?

How can mentorship and sponsorship accelerate your career progression?
May we all be blessed to have many strong mentors in our lives. Beginning with our family; parents, grandparents, older siblings, aunts and uncles. The core unit of society models the roles of mentor and mentee so well and creates paradigms about mentorship that last a lifetime. When we move into our productive pursuits in early adulthood, it might take on the shape of apprenticeship. In the cocreative work is when we are most open to new wisdom while being observant of the technical expertise demonstrated. Again, establishing models of what the two roles require. Moving into adulthood and long-term productive pursuits, we slowly become mentors ourselves. If we have come up through productive modeling, we will naturally fit into the role.

CEDE helped me grow in entrepreneurial thought and skills in light of Catholic theology — to join a new generation of Catholics who are inspired by God to make a meaningful impact in the workplace and beyond. A true entrepreneur is someone who creates real human value in the world. And, as a CEDE graduate, I pledge to find ways to develop the world around me, serve the needs of others, and live a fulfilling life.
