🆕 findings published in NEJM Group and presented at #CPDD24: A The National Institutes of Health-funded intervention did not impact opioid-related overdose death rates over the evaluation period. Researchers identified the COVID-19 pandemic and an increasingly dangerous drug supply among factors that may have contributed to the diminished impact of the intervention. Despite facing unforeseen challenges, the #HEALingCommunities Study successfully engaged communities to select and implement hundreds of evidence-based strategies over the course of the intervention, demonstrating how leveraging community partnerships and using data to inform public health decisions can effectively support the uptake of evidence-based strategies at the local level. The image shows hPSC-derived hindbrain neurons derived from a patient with IFNAR1 complete deficiency (IFNAR1−/−) pretreated with IFN-β and infected with SARS-CoV-2 (MOI 0.1). 72 h post-infection cells were stained with antibodies against the SARSCoV-2 nucleocapsid protein (N in red, negative staining) and a neuron-specific microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2, green). IFNAR1−/− cells were not susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection. From Chan et al. Implemented from 2016 to 2022, it also contributed important lessons learned used in the design of the currently recruiting Enhancing Oncology Model: go.cms.gov/eom. The new Oncology Care Model Cancer Care report showcases patient cancer journeys and pinpoints what matters most to people undergoing cancer treatment. It is designed for patients and caregivers to connect and learn about cancer treatment from a patient’s perspective.
