Getting out of corporate healthcare as a nurse practitioner and primary care provider was the best decision I ever made. Within just 3 years of working at a big box primary care clinic, I was burned out. Seeing so many patients each day, my day was broken up into “before lunch” and “after lunch” segments. My memory was foggy. Transcribing my conversations from patient to a computer left me unable to retain longer, meaningful conversations. Stress was high trying to meet administration’s demands. I was the highest producing NP in my area and I only made the 50% bonus RVU benchmark. The solution I was told, “switch to shorter visits so you can see more patients.” Are you kidding me? No thank you. When insurance gets involved, then I am spending more time on billing and coding and less time on patient focused care. Yes, it feels like hell. I started a direct primary care clinic where I can spend time with my patients and provide unlimited visits, extended appointment times, discounted labs prices and really, just more comprehensive healthcare overall without wasting time on paperwork! There really is no better way to practice…and my DPC colleagues will 💯 agree! #directprimarycare #nursepractitioner #nurse #lifestylemedicine #smallbusinessowner #smallbusiness #femaleentrepreneur #antidiet #haes #entrepreneur
