Update for Non-Alcoholic Beverage Shoppers If you’re picking up alcohol-free drinks like Giesen, Athletic Brewing, or newer health-focused options like TranQuini Dei Soi and Kin Euphorics, here’s something to know: major retailers like Target and Walmart may ask for your ID at checkout. Even though these drinks are non-alcoholic, they’re often sold next to traditional alcohol, and some states, like New York, require ID for these beverages as well. Target has been quietly implementing this policy for some time now, and while some customers find it inconvenient, it’s all about following regulations and ensuring these products meet growing market standards. next time you grab a non-alcoholic drink, just be prepared to show your ID, even if your on social security 😂😎🤝

A double earnings/sales beat, raised guidance in many meaningful categories, and new product new news for CAVA makes for a great quarter. In fact, very few other brands--only a handful-- are doing as well. A new brand regarded as cool by guests and employees and the right kind of executive management and food has been evident for years now. The IPO seems to have supercharged attention and momentum. The discussion about the calendar adjusted SSS and traffic and the two year stacked SSS number warrants a note. While the 10Q P&L necessarily focuses on change from prior year, we are almost certainly wrong focusing on that number. We as an industry can and must spend more time on 2 year and even five year stacked numbers for better MD&A. CAVA did today. Their disclosure changed the tone. Thank you Brett Schulman.

Many beverage brands are finding success in partnering with retailers, influencers, or icons (think Marvel, Disney, etc) to help boost consumer awareness and trial. In the last year at Circle Beverage we’ve had some of our largest-growth clients benefit from this trend, as recently as this week when we produced a new collaboration between a high-potential brand and a well-aligned influencer. Commercializing these types of projects is challenging. There are extra “opinions at the table” when it comes to formula adjustments, packaging design, and more. Due to the understandable lack of industry experience of the influencer partner, often times these changes come late in the process. Late changes require the manufacturer and operational teams to apply considerable flexibility and attention to detail to execute without error or turbulence. Changes that usually take weeks or months often need to be pulled off in days or hours. I can’t say how long this collaborative trend will remain in our industry, but it is gaining momentum every week. "Social media has democratized attention; it's now a privilege to earn it." Wow, what an epic masterclass in storytelling from Jake Karls of Mid-Day Squares during a session with SKU yesterday. Today, emerging brands can generate millions of views on social media to capture the elusive attention of their audiences, evening the playing field. Back in the day, the name of the game was spending millions on media to get this same attention. This isn't a post about "going viral" though (which is not a strategy, btw). It's about emotive storytelling. Mid-Day Squares created a reality show on the entrepreneurial journey, telling the story of David vs Goliath. And you can't help but root for the underdog through the ups, downs and the hilarity in between. They stand for something bigger than their product benefits because while you can copy graphics, ingredients, claims, etc. you can't copy how you make people feel. Here are some of the brands elevating the playing field by standing for something bigger than their product benefits: 🍫 Mid-Day Squares: David vs Goliath (more than a better-for-you Hersheys) 🌮 Siete Family Foods: togetherness (or as they say, "juntos es mejor") 🥤 OLIPOP PBC: the simple joys in life (watch out Coke, they're coming for your happiness) 🥣 GOODLES and 🌈 Unreal Snacks: being a kid again! (adulting doesn't have to be so serious) 🍍 King's Hawaiian: aloha vibes (who needs to go to Hawaii when you can bring Hawaii to your kitchen?) If it doesn't evoke emotion, what's the point?
