The path to beat #HIV is not a mystery but it’s a fight that can’t be won alone. Partnerships have always been key to fighting HIV, but with the latest UNAIDS data painting a bleak picture of progress against the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – including a rise in the number of people living with HIV to 40million and 9.3million people not getting the treatment they need – they are now more critical than ever. At ViiV Healthcare collaboration is baked into everything we do – from working with the community to supercharge our science to partnerships with access organisations and civil society groups like AVAC that work to promote and enable equitable access to HIV prevention and treatment methods. As our long-term partner Mitchell Warren, Exec Director of AVAC eloquently states “real progress happens when science meets policy, and policy meets community.” I’m proud of all our partnerships but two hold a special place in my heart. 1/ Our voluntary licencing agreements with the Medicines Patent Pool that enable people in low- and middle-income countries to access our products. This partnership now includes our long-acting prevention medicine, and we are working with generic partners on development. Until generic versions are available, we have made our medicine available at a non-profit price for public programmes and it is currently being administered in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Eswatini and Ukraine with more to come before the end of the year. 2/ Positive Action our global grant giving programme that provides financial and technical support to grassroot organisations to change the lives of people living with and impacted by HIV. Boehringer Ingelheim in partnership with WHO Foundation, today pledged USD 5 million to advance access to quality healthcare services for all, with a special focus on vulnerable populations in the Americas who are at greater risk of suicide. Through this partnership with the WHO Foundation, Boehringer Ingelheim will provide financial support to WHO’s Fourteenth General Program of Work, spanning from 2025 to 2028, contributing to WHO’s Investment Round. To contribute to the discussion about if, when and how information about #healthdisparities can be reliably integrated in #regulatory and #HTA submissions, we share our just published manuscript presenting results from an environmental scanning of publicly available population #datasets utilizing disaggregated data to investigate and quantify the scope of #healthinequalities. These platforms offer unique opportunities to reach diverse audiences with verified, engaging, and informative content. I have always been an advocate of the utilization of all things digital in healthcare --and I am thrilled to share that my teams effort on establishing a channel for patients multiple online channels have finally come to fruition. With the addition of TikTok and the revitalized patient Website, we are closer to closing the loop in empowering patients with the knowledge they need to give control of healthcare back to the patients. 🔹 Educational Impact: Through short, impactful videos and posts, we can raise awareness about the symptoms, management, and prevention of Asthma and COPD. This not only helps in spreading knowledge but also in debunking myths and reducing stigma associated with these conditions- whilst increasing health seeking behavior among patients and their caregivers. 🔹 Interactive Learning: Social media allows for interactive learning experiences. Lots of news and opinion pieces out there this week about the Medicare IRA price negotiations for the first 10 identified products. These new prices will go into effect in 2026, with some drugs discounted as much as 79% from 2023 prices (see the table in the attached Fact Sheet). It will be interesting to watch this evolve and see how it ultimately trickles down to patient out of pocket cost, impacts on patient access to therapy and on innovation for new product development.
