    OP&F was created in 1965 by the Ohio General Assembly to provide pension and disability benefits to the state’s full-time police officers and firefighters. OP&F also provides survivor benefits and offers an optional health care plan for retirees and their eligible dependents.

    OP&F was created in 1965 by the Ohio General Assembly to provide pension and disability benefits to the state’s full-time police officers and firefighters. OP&F also provides survivor benefits and offers an optional health care plan for retirees and their eligible dependents.

    Operations began in 1967, when assets of $75 million and liabilities of $490 million were transferred from 454 local public safety pension funds across Ohio. As of Dec. 31, 2014, OP&F’s investment portfolio was valued at $14.43 billion.

    As one of five public retirement systems in Ohio, OP&F has established a financially sound pension fund that operates on an actuarial reserve basis. The system’s disability benefit program and the investment portfolio management have routinely been recognized for excellence.

    Our work now shifts to building on this base to further grow the area economy and contribute to Cleveland’s renaissance. A new Master Plan creates a framework for strengthening the Detroit Avenue core, connecting with the lake and nearby neighborhoods, maintaining focus on the arts and taking the neighborhood to the next level of success.
