I had the privilege of hosting another powerful session of the Multifamily Facilities Leadership Group this afternoon. Top industry leaders came together to tackle the pressing challenges in property management and explore the innovative solutions that will shape our future. Here are the main takeaways from our conversation: ✅ Technology Should Work for You: We talked about how AI and new tech can take the load off our maintenance teams. The key is making sure the tools are simple and practical. If the technology doesn’t fit the job, it won’t get used. It has to be built for the people on the ground, not just for show. ✅ Amazon Could Shake Things Up: Amazon is eyeing the multifamily procurement market, and that could change everything. They offer competitive prices and a wide range of products. This could push traditional suppliers to step up their game. But with that comes the challenge of balancing cost with quality. We can’t afford to cut corners on what matters most. ✅ Break Down the Silos: Too often, maintenance, procurement, and accounting work in isolation. We need to tear down these walls. When these departments communicate and collaborate, we save money, time, and headaches. A unified approach is how we win. ✅ Smarter Buying Means Bigger Savings: In tough times, every dollar counts. We looked at how relying on one supplier might not be the best move. Bringing in competition between suppliers can drive prices down. With Amazon in the mix, there’s even more reason to rethink how we spend. ✅ Train Your People, Then Train Them Again: No technology is worth much if your team doesn’t know how to use it. Training is crucial. It’s not enough to just hand out tools—you’ve got to make sure your people are confident using them. When they are, the whole operation runs smoother. These points remind us that innovation and efficiency aren’t just goals—they’re necessities. To lead in this industry, we need to push forward, make smart choices, and work together. How can artificial intelligence (AI) tools be used in a manner that promotes people-first places? This is the question International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) posed as applications of AI and generative AI became more prevalent across the built environment, from architectural design, to building information modeling and asset valuation.
