This is a continuing maritime security or marsec update from Sanborn Analytics. On October 18th, 2024, the Mexican Navy conducted its largest drug bust to date in a coordinated multi-vessel operation off the coasts of Michoacan and Guerrero. The operation began when a Navy patrol boat and helicopter spotted a go-fast boat with eight people aboard. Upon realizing they were being pursued, the suspects dumped marked packages overboard but were swiftly apprehended. The Navy recovered 94 packages and 38 drums of fuel, totaling 2.1 tonnes of drugs. Shortly after, a second boat with three crew members was intercepted, leading to the recovery of 1,100 kilos of drugs and 125 fuel drums, hinting at a long voyage plan. A third vessel seized off Guerrero was found with 40 packages totaling 1,200 kilos of drugs. In a daring operation, Navy commandos boarded a 15-meter semi-submersible at full speed, seizing 2.2 tonnes of drugs. The final two vessels were smaller, with six crew members and 1,800 kilos of drugs captured between them. In total, the Navy seized six boats, arrested 23 suspects, and recovered 8.3 tonnes of drugs and 2,300 gallons of fuel. The coastal states of Michoacan and Guerrero serve as key drug transshipment hubs, controlled by rival groups including the CJNG and smaller local gangs, according to Insight Crime. Please stop lowering the bar. If the Marine Corps today thinks it's time for ethnicities, tribes, cultures, races, etc., to create their own military grooming and uniform standards, than the Marine Corps ceases, in some ways, to exist as it has for a long time. The strength of the Corps are the facts that the commonality of boot camp/OCS, uniforms and appearance, and physical and mental requirements are the same no matter who you are or where you're from, has long been a rallying point for teamwork and shared hardships. In 2024 going forward we have a need for more recruits and better retention. The very thing that's hurting recruiting--wokeism/DEI--is {one of} the biggest reasons why so many troops are exiting the active force. Potential recruits, especially from legacy military families, are sitting around the kitchen table at home and deciding to take a pass on joining the service with another generation of warrior(s) from that family. Self-inflicted by today's military leadership. Just an observation.

🔦SPOTLIGHT SATURDAY🔦🌟 Today we are chatting with John from Florida. 🟠Tell us a little bit about your story: My father was a navy nuclear submarine chief. My brothers and I attended several different schools before moving to Miami for my senior year of high school. I was 17 when I accidentally touched a high voltage transformer. I had flash burns and exit wounds on all four limbs. I was treated for burn care and amputation at Brooke Army Hospital. I had my left arm amputated above the elbow and shoulder disarticulation on the right arm. I had a knee fusion on my left knee and exit wounds on my right leg. I graduated high school and college with a social work degree. I worked at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute for 30 years before retiring. 🟠Tell us about your family: I met my wife, Elaine in college and married in 1991. We lived in Palmetto Bay until she passed in 2010. We have three children who live in Germany, London, and Vietnam. 🟠What are some of your hobbies or favorite activities? My favorite activity is swimming. Some of my hobbies are sailing, hiking, and gardening. 🟠What advice would you give someone who is struggling with their limb difference? At first, I thought it was a bad dream I would wake up from. Then I reframed it as a game, now it is a lifelong sport of being in competition with myself. As Hurricane Milton bears down on Tampa and surrounding ports, we’re staring down the possibility of long-term disruptions to the marine transportation system. These ports are essential to our regional and national economy, but the reality is, our aging infrastructure may not be able to bounce back as quickly as we need. The recent ILA strike has already strained capacity, leaving little room for error. What’s even more concerning is the interconnected nature of this system of ports, rail, and trucking networks work together as a whole. If one goes down, the others struggle to keep up. Damage to Tampa’s port facilities could ripple out, creating backlogs across rail and highways, further delaying the recovery and worsening supply chain stress. The question now isn’t just about preparing for the storm but about how we rebuild smarter after it. The time to invest in more resilient infrastructure is overdue. Ports like Tampa need the capacity to absorb, adapt, and restore operations faster, or we’ll continue to see cascading disruptions with every major event.
