I was quoted by Stuart Elliott, the widely read advertising columnist as saying, "Consumer-product companies "spend billions of dollars to attract customers, without any kind of strategic focus on keeping them," said Bruce Bolger, the director of the Premium Incentive Show, the annual trade exposition of the industries that offer premiums like free or reduced-price merchandise and incentives like frequent-flier and frequent-buyer…

Here are early signs of my focus on Enterprise Engagement. I was quoted by Stuart Elliott, the widely read advertising columnist as saying, "Consumer-product companies "spend billions of dollars to attract customers, without any kind of strategic focus on keeping them," said Bruce Bolger, the director of the Premium Incentive Show, the annual trade exposition of the industries that offer premiums like free or reduced-price merchandise and incentives like frequent-flier and frequent-buyer programs.

"You have to motivate consumers to come to buy your product," he said, "but then you have to deliver to them. Advertising creates customers, but once you get them, what are you doing to keep them?:

"Mr. Bolger decried poorly planned programs, saying they "lead to a lot of stupid things," like the disastrous promotion by Hoover Ltd. in Britain recently, which offered customers free international air travel for buying products as inexpensive as vacuum cleaners."
