We continue the spotlight series this week with just some of the many highlights from the past 12 months at Harvard Chan Zhu Family Center for Global Cancer Prevention. Learn about some of their exciting initiatives below: - The Good Health Kiosk is an interactive educational display created from decommissioned Harvard dormitory desk. The goal of the kiosk is to educate and empower the public to reduce their risk of cancer through healthy lifestyle habits and practices through an interactive display. QR codes lead the viewer to helpful resources, such as smoking cessation programs. The kiosk will be hosted in different locations around the Harvard campus with plans on traveling to community health clinics, schools, and hospitals.   - In recognition of World Cancer Day (February 5, 2024) the Zhu Center in partnership with Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Studio hosted “Reducing Cancer Risk Through Nutrition” Livestream Panel Discussion. The event garnered 1,000+ live views and over 27,800+ YouTube views to date. The Prudential Center was also lit in orange and blue in recognition of World Cancer Day. Following the livestream, the audience was invited to a cooking demonstration led by Harvard executive chef Christopher Kelly, who shared his recipes and technique for two dishes: a warm quinoa salad with roasted fava beans, beets, grapes, and arugula; and pistachio-filled dates with yogurt (see links to recipes below). - The Trainee Travel Award provides travel funding for students who have been invited to present their research at scientific conferences around the world. In the past 12 months we have supported 10 trainees traveling to 8 states and 2 countries. - Barbra Dickerman and colleagues are leading cancer-causal research that integrates large health databases with causal inference methods to inform decision-making about cancer control when a randomized trial is not available.
