I work with clients who are good writers. Why would they want my help? How does that make sense? The short answer: they have to guard their time. Over the past several years I've met a lot of really sharp folks who, in terms of their pure ability to write to inform, entertain, and persuade, don't actually need much help. But you get to a point in professional services where a lot of things compete for your time. You can't JUST be a great writer if you're also running a business. So, you work with people like me! I also love working with people who are great communicators, but aren't necessarily confident in their ability to capture their own essence in writing. They know what they want to say, but just need someone else who understands what they're saying and can carry it the last mile. #RIAs #creativity

Question: What snags have you hit when working with a digital content contractor? 📣 If you have worked with an external writer, editor, or writing company (where you post topics to be picked up by a pool of writers), what barriers or stumbling blocks did you come up against? Whether it’s something they did that you didn’t like or didn’t expect, or something you later realized you did wrong or unexpectedly—I want it all! Does your book need a copyeditor? The answer is yes. It's yes even if you think you produce "clean copy." I produce cleaner first drafts than many people's final drafts *because* I'm also a copyeditor. I still need one. It's yes even if your book contains a lot of jargon that people outside your industry can't spell - you can find somebody with industry experience or even provide us with a spelling guide. (I edit SF. There's no "industry experience" for somebody's wacky conlang ;)). It's yes even if you've already had a developmental editor look at it. Typos get reintroduced when you do *those* fixes. (Also, proofread again after your book is laid out. I've seen so many typos introduced in layout). You need a copyeditor who can make sure that your MC's hair isn't red on page 3 and brown on page 76, who can fix the fact that you have this weird mental block that makes you put a second e in "enduring." I'm available for copyediting work and have no major projects on my plate currently through October 13, so now is the *perfect* time to send me your book. I copyedit most fiction and non fiction including adult material, but would particularly love to see your science fiction or fantasy novel.
