🚀 Exciting News: Introducing WF Labs! 🚀 I'm thrilled to announce the launch of ✨WF Labs✨ a movement-owned AI innovation hub empowering the left to reach voters and communities at scale! 🌐 https://www.wflabs.org/ Like many of you, my feelings on AI have run the gamut from skepticism and fear to awe and concern. I've worried about job displacement and algorithmic bias, while simultaneously marveling at AI's potential to solve complex problems. What I have come to realize is that AI is here and changing the way we work, whether we like it or not. I also believe that if the left does not doesn’t decide AI’s role in democracy, that AI tools fundamentally won’t work for us or our communities. Without our input and values guiding its development, AI tools may inadvertently perpetuate or exacerbate existing inequalities. However, by engaging with AI, we can harness a powerful tool for social change. It has the potential to revolutionize how we organize, communicate, and mobilize for progressive causes. We need to ensure that these powerful technologies will work for us and our communities. Working Families Party is a trusted leader on the left that has won hundreds of elections for candidates that champion the working class, and in recent years we have made significant investments in tech and AI capacities.  In 2022, we incubated the startup, Votivate, to provide affordable voter file access to candidates and organizations. In 2023, we joined forces with a data science company to super charge Votivate and the Working Families Party with powerful AI technology, enabling progressives to organize smarter at scale. 🚀 Now, we are launching WF Labs to be the center of gravity for AI on the left to fuel movement organizations, campaigns, and labor institutions to organize the multi racial working class at scale. We intend to leverage our newly acquired technological resources to build AI software, tools, and apps that unlocks a new paradigm of organizing for the left. We're assembling a Product Advisory Committee with expertise from labor, campaign, and movement spheres to guide product development at Votivate and beyond. Our goal is to innovate a suite of campaign tech tools that empower organizers nationwide. In the Fight Against Disinformation, AI is A Lifeline, Not A Judge During my Google.org Tech for Social Good Fellowship, one thing has become crystal clear: AI is a powerful ally, but not some magic truth detector. It's a tool to empower us, not to replace our critical thinking skills. Here's how we're exploring using AI to level up the fight against disinformation: 🔍 NLP (Natural Language Processing): A BS detector, scanning massive amounts of text to uncover inconsistencies and red flags.  🕸️ Network Analysis: Unraveling coordinated disinformation campaigns, exposing the puppet masters behind the curtain by examining account and website behaviors.  📸 Image & Video Analysis: Deepfakes and manipulated media don't stand a chance against AI's eagle eye. But remember, context is key! Oftentimes real images are used in the wrong situation to support an inaccurate claim. I'm thrilled to see a law like this get passed in California and hope other states will follow to protect the health and well-being of our youth online. But I'm perplexed why the enforcement date is not until January 1, 2027. Why not in 2026? Companies do not need more than a year to prepare. Solutions already exist to help these companies get in compliance that big tech has ignored for years that do not take long to integrate. #smartagegate #parentalconsent #ageverification #ageassurance #PiD #PRIVO #ageaware

This week, the "sherlocking" of AI startups appeared in full force. I was reminded of the term at yesterday's Boulder Startup Week mentor mingling event. For those unfamiliar, it's a term applied to Apple's long-standing behavior of using the intelligence of its Appstore position to evaluate which popular apps to convert into free features of its own products. With the aggressive progress of core AI platforms in the news this week, I'd bet hundreds (but probably thousands) of start-ups working on their "AI startups" winced as they saw their ideas disappear into a presentation bullet as AI platforms embrace obvious expansions that [1] make users engage more deeply/frequently, and [2] convince developers to embrace each platform. It was interesting to hear OpenAI this week refer to their efforts to host GPTs from enthusiastic small startups as their "Store". Assume that your coveted "Top Picks" in this market-making feature probably means you've become a key feature upgrade business case in the product planning team of OpenAI [and their ilk]. https://lnkd.in/eyrhBxs9
