I have been a member of the organization since February 2010 but was elected as the section leader for the trumpets in the concert band in March 2017. I am responsible for assigning parts, solos, and seating locations within the section for each concert. I make copies and scans of music for section members, take roll for attendance, and lead efforts to improve playing quality within the section.

We collect items for the Howard County Food Bank at all performances.

  • Analysis of Driver Behavioral Adaptation to the Lateral Drift Warning System

    Pennsylvania State University

I analyzed how drivers changed their behavior over a four-week period with the presence of a lateral drift warning (LDW) system installed in a test vehicle. This system alerted drivers through visual, audible, and tactile warnings when the vehicle departed from the center line of the travel lane by an established threshold. Behavior was measured by the frequency of alerts triggered over time. All drivers were compared as a single group. Drivers were also divided into groups by the following…

This system alerted drivers through visual, audible, and tactile warnings when the vehicle departed from the center line of the travel lane by an established threshold. Behavior was measured by the frequency of alerts triggered over time. All drivers were compared as a single group. Drivers were also divided into groups by the following categories: sex, years of driving experience, personal habits (including smoking), and various predispositions (including locus of control, sensation-seeking desires, and risk perception).

The review committee was so impressed with the enthusiasm and creativity of the responses that they knew immediately that WSP USA needed to harness and encourage this interest to thrive. And so the Power of ONE Ambassador was born.

The role of the Power of ONE Ambassador is essential to realize the ultimate goals associated with this program. Our Ambassadors, consisting of Power of ONE applicants and summit participants, are the champions of expanding the cross-sector and cross-generational collaboration. Their contributions will start by sharing the mission of the Power of ONE initiative with local leadership and staff. Ambassadors will also work with their area leadership and other local team members to identify, target and promote new cross-sector opportunities in each city.

The Power of ONE is an extension of the Urban Futures Initiative (UFI). UFI and the Power of ONE are focused on leveraging deep and comprehensive professional services capabilities of WSP in six core sectors.

It extends the thinking of UFI to specific program opportunities, where we harness ideas and collaborative spirit across the firm to bring clients innovative cross-sector strategies and solutions to solve their most significant challenges. To be industry leaders in solving complex challenges in the built environment, we must work across our six sectors to leverage new solutions and technologies that will meet and exceed increasing needs from our communities to meet challenges such as affordable housing, sustainable communities, autonomous vehicles, resilience, convergence of work-life-play, and future-proofing interconnected infrastructure.
