SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

The Environmental Manager is responsible for providing leadership, direction and guidance on water and waste permitting and compliance matters. Key accountabilities include managing the development of the water permitting (including wetland and TPDES), waste and chemical program development. Also responsible for effective development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of Environmental policies, standards and systems required to drive Next Decade’s environmental performance and continuous improvement activities, as it relates to water, waste, and chemical management and compliance.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Environmental Manager is charged with performing a wide array of tasks related to Air, Water and Waste Permitting and Compliance. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead permitting strategy and process for related to water, waste, and/or chemicals for construction and operations
  • Identifies existing, new, and merged environmental legislation specific to the scope of work, including monitoring compliance and interpretation of its impact on the company business
  • Assist with compliance programs for activities associated with authorized storm water and wastewater discharge permits, including submitting of discharge monitoring reports and pollution prevention plan management/training.
  • Develop waste management program for corporate and project.
  • Manage required environmental studies, including desktop reviews, field surveys, etc., to screen sensitive areas and implement avoidance or mitigation measures
  • Engage externally with third-party environmental consultants and regulatory agencies on permitting and compliance-related activities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders (engineering, land, legal, corporate affairs, etc.)


Experience required for the position:

  • 7+ years of related experience
  • Experience with compliance management systems to track and trend compliance tasks and commitments
  • Preferred experience on FERC regulated project and experience with TCEQ


Minimum/preferred knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:

  • Must have strong written and verbal skills (English language)
  • Ability to communicate with leadership levels as well as, various disciplines including Legal, HSSE and Engineering and Commissioning teams.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal and State requirements for LNG Terminals.
  • Well versed in Clean Water Act, Spill Prevention Countermeasure and Control, Emergency Planning and Community-Right-to-Know Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and Texas State equivalent.
  • Familiarity of regulatory requirements under the Natural Gas Act (18 CFR Parts 152-158) and experience with FERC NEPA.


Preferred education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Environmental Sciences, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering
  • PE Certification desirable.


Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment with occasional work within or outside of a complex construction environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers/fax, filing cabinets, etc. This is primarily a sedentary role; however, the incumbent must be able to stand and/or sit continuously to perform all essential job functions for a full shift.


Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. in order to lift files, boxes and office equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to open filing cabinets and bending, standing on a stool, or climbing as necessary to perform these functions.
  • While performing the duties of this role, the incumbent may be required to talk or listen.
  • Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The incumbent is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to move throughout all areas of each office/site location and facilities.
  • Able to wear all necessary PPE equipment to perform job functions.
