Imagine a week in NYC where passionate education leaders come together to transform their dreams of creating impactful schools into reality. That's exactly what happened during Z Combinator Fellowship, Session 2. It offered an awesome blend of practical skills, leadership development, and real-world exposure to successful school operations. We kicked off with a deep dive into self-awareness and leadership. We explored our leadership styles through DISC assessments (where are my Di folks!?), setting the stage for authentic and effective team-building, crucial lessons on board management, equipping us with the governance know-how to navigate our schools' futures. But let me tell you about the MIND-BLOWING operations talks we had! 🤯 You know that feeling when you THINK you've got it figured out, and then suddenly your whole perspective shifts? I always knew operations were important, but seeing the Zeta Operational Excellence (ZOE) model in action? Game changer! 🏫✨ Chris D'Amato, the Managing Director of Operational Excellence, took us on a journey through what truly excellent school operations look like. Some eye-opening moments: - Realizing that operational excellence is actually a matter of equity for our students. Every child deserves a beautiful, clean, and safe learning environment. It's not just nice to have, it's essential! 💖 - Learning about the ZOE evaluation tool. Who knew a 225+ point checklist could be so exciting? (Okay, maybe that's just the ops nerd in me talking 😂) - Seeing real examples of what excellent operations look like. Those before-and-after pictures of school spaces were like something out of a home makeover show! - Understanding that great ops isn't just about cleanliness, but also about efficient systems, safety, and top-notch family service. It's like conducting an orchestra where every section needs to play in harmony! 🎵 I came into this session thinking school operations was just about keeping things running. I'm leaving with a vision of how operations can truly elevate the entire school experience for students, families, and staff. Feeling grateful, inspired, and so ready for this journey ahead.
