Today is World Mental Health Day 💙 This year's theme, “Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,” couldn’t be more timely. We are seeing mental health impact workplaces more than ever, yet when we talk about mental health in the workplace, we often focus solely on stress and burnout. However, that view is limiting. Mental health is intimate, complex, and deeply connected to every chapter of our lives—far beyond just stress and burnout. The challenge is those more intimate issues are tough to discuss in the workplace. So, if it’s hard to talk about our personal struggles at work, why should we do it? Because 60% of the global population is employed, and we spend over half of our waking hours at work. Last year, 72% of working adults experienced symptoms of mental illness, and 40% reported an increased need for mental health support. Creating a culture that supports mental health through thoughtful policies, comprehensive benefits, and an empathetic workplace culture is no longer optional—it’s essential. And remember, it’s not just the big changes that matter. Small, everyday actions can help build a more supportive workplace, too. Here are a few examples of small, daily actions that can positively impact your organization: 🌀 Encourage employees to disconnect after hours. “Thanks for sending! Let’s pick it up tomorrow—enjoy your evening!” 🌀 Remind your team to take their PTO—and mean it. 🌀 Start meetings with a check-in on how everyone’s feeling before diving into business. 🌀 Make some meetings screen-free or camera-off. 🌀 Share resources that have supported your own wellness, like a podcast on the importance of sleep. Building a culture of wellness takes time, but the impact on employee well-being and company success is worth every effort. Let’s commit to prioritizing mental health in the workplace, today and every day. 🌿

Fortune's CHRO Daily Newsletter today was filled with compelling information about mental wellness in the workplace: Mental health care, maternity leave, and group medical coverage are the perks that are most likely to drive employee engagement for staffers who are already relatively stable and financially secure, according to a new report from OC Tanner. Mental health care specifically drives engagement up by 156% 📈 “This demonstrates that mental wellbeing—including feeling appreciated and a sense of belonging—is a critical part of what keeps employees who are on the high end of survival engaged and wanting to stay,” the report reads. It’s no surprise that mental health is wildly popular among employees. There has been a 74% surge in U.S. workers requesting leave or accommodations for mental health-related issues, according to a recent report from Littler. And younger generations, like Gen Z, have put a premium on addressing mental health concerns. If you're asking yourself if mental health is still top-of-mind for employees, the answer is a resounding yes. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/g5Jyz5SM
